AMD Ryzen 7 7840U to szybki, high-endowy procesor do laptopów z serii Phoenix i najszybszy model z serii U. Oferuje on 8 rdzeni (octa core) opartych na architekturze Zen 4 , która obsługuje hyperthreading (16 wątków). Taktowanie rdzeni wynosi od 3,3 (bazowe) do 5,1 GHz (przyspieszenie pojedynczego rdzenia). Procesor posiada 8 MB pamięci podręcznej L2 i 16 MB pamięci podręcznej L3.
Wydajność R7 7840U jest, w zależności od obciążenia, tylko nieznacznie niższa od Ryzen 7 7840HS (wyższa bazowa częstotliwość taktowania i TDP). W porównaniu do poprzedniej generacji Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U 7840U jest wyraźnie szybszy dzięki architekturze Zen 4 i wyższym taktowaniom.
W układzie zintegrowano nowoczesną i szybką kartę graficzną RDNA 3 (iGPU) o nazwie Radeon 780M z 12 jednostkami CU i taktowaniem do 2,7 GHz. Ponadto, seria Phoenix zawiera silnik wideo z AV1 de- i kodowaniem, nowy akcelerator XDNA AI oparty na Xilinx FPGA (Ryzen AI), który powinien być szybszy niż silnik AI w Apple M2 SOC oraz dwukanałowy kontroler pamięci DDR5-5600 / LPDDR5x-7500 (z obsługą ECC). Seria Phoenix wykorzystuje pojedynczą monolityczną konstrukcję (w przeciwieństwie do konstrukcji chiplet serii 7045HX) i jest produkowana w nowoczesnym procesie technologicznym 4 nm w TSMC. Współczynnik TDP można skonfigurować w zakresie od 15 do 30 W (domyślnie 28 W).
