Nowy SoC przynosi wyraźny skok wydajności CPU, ale i bardzo duże wzrosty GPU, co bezpośrednio przekłada się na przyspieszenie wiele procesów, od renderowania, przez przetwarzanie AI, po wydajność w grach. To jednak nie wszystko, bo dużego przyspieszenia doczekał się także dysk, który zaliczył przeskok z prędkości PCIe 3.0 na PCIe 4.0, choć z drugiej strony windowsowe laptopy od dawna już oferują SSD PCIe 5.0. What we're really looking at here is improvements in graphic performance and more AI capabilities. Which does beg the question, who is this 14in model for? Everything from playing Cyberpunk 2077 to editing photos is superb on this computer. While I wish it were a little lighter, I wouldn’t call the current model heavy. In the same way Apple is having a hard time getting people to upgrade from the M1 series, I think people who stick with an M5 will also be able to use their computers for years and years to come. But if hardware design matters more than performance per dollar, then I’d wait until 2026 to see if a new Pro is just around the corner.

Everything from playing Cyberpunk 2077 to editing photos is superb on this computer. While I wish it were a little lighter, I wouldn’t call the current model heavy. In the same way Apple is having a hard time getting people to upgrade from the M1 series, I think people who stick with an M5 will also be able to use their computers for years and years to come. But if hardware design matters more than performance per dollar, then I’d wait until 2026 to see if a new Pro is just around the corner.

That’s more true for MacBooks than many other PCs you can buy today, though the new MacBook Pro with M5 chip isn’t suddenly doing better than the MacBook Pro with M4 chip. It’s fast, efficient and capable of handling demanding workloads that would have required a much larger desktop only a few years ago. It does so quietly and without sacrificing portability or battery life. The improvements may be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, but evolution, as Apple reminds us, still moves forward. Beyond that, Apple hardware has become genuinely capable of gaming, content creation and everything in between — and I’m glad to see all of that in one sleek, capable package.

The low-end MacBook Pro has always occupied an odd in-between place in Apple’s lineup, overlapping in a lot of places with the MacBook Air and without the benefit of the much-faster chips that the 15- and 16-inch MacBook Pros could fit. The M5 MacBook Pro carries on that complicated legacy, and even with the M5 there are still lots of people for whom one of the M4 MacBook Airs is just going to be a better fit. But it is a very nice laptop, and if your screen is the most important part of your laptop, this low-end Pro does make a decent case for itself. The MacBook Pro M5 gives our favorite premium laptop even more power

Much as we anticipated, the 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 looks to be the fastest version yet of a notebook we’ve loved and recommended for years; however, you should really only consider it if you’re upgrading from a very old MacBook or are getting your first and don’t mind splurging for the best of the best. Folks coming from an MacBook Pro M1 or an Intel-based Mac will notice a huge difference in performance and will get to take advantage of a more modern MacBook Pro design with a much better port selection than before. And while this new MacBook Pro is far from cheap, it’s at least retaining the same starting price of $1,599 that we’ve seen over the past few years. Still, unless you use demanding AI tools, do a lot of taxing graphical work or want to really crank up the latest Mac games, you’ll likely be served just as well by the latest MacBook Air M4 that starts at a much more attainable $999.
