The Realme 16T, announced and released in late May 2026, is clearly built to last. It is a sizable phone with a 6.81-inch AMOLED display, a body that measures 166.4 x 78.2 x 8.8 mm, and it weighs 224 grams so it feels solid but not uncomfortably heavy. What really stands out is the rugged credentials it comes with an IP68/IP69K dust and water resistance rating, meaning it can survive high-pressure water jets and be submerged up to 2.5 meters for 30 minutes. Plus, it meets MIL-STD-810H military standards for durability. The front uses Panda-1681 glass for protection, while the frame and back are plastic. Just a heads-up, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, but you do get dual Nano-SIM slots and a microSD card slot for expandable storage. The 6.81-inch AMOLED screen is smooth thanks to a 144Hz refresh rate, and it gets bright enough at 1200 nits for outdoor use. However, the resolution is a modest 720 x 1570 pixels, which works out to about 254 pixels per inch so it is sharp enough for daily tasks but not as crisp as higher-end flagships. Under the hood, you will find a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset built on 6nm technology paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB or 256GB (UFS 2.2).

Its massive 8,000mAh battery easily stands out as one of the phone’s biggest strengths, while the slim design and IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings add a sense of practicality and premium appeal. Realme UI 7 also feels smooth and polished for everyday use. At the same time, the phone does come with a few compromises that are difficult to ignore in this price segment. The HD+ LCD display feels less competitive compared to the AMOLED panels offered by rivals, the Dimensity 6300 chipset may not satisfy power users, and the camera setup lacks versatility, especially without an ultra-wide sensor.

Coming back to the question, is the Realme 16T 5G a decent mid-range smartphone? Definitely, yes. Priced at Rs. 29,999 in India, it is a capable performer with great credentials and a design that could have you sold on it. But is it the best in the price segment? I am afraid not. The underpowered chipset and the sub-par display resolution make it a not-so-attractive deal. But one should consider it for its real-life performance, which is sufficient in all aspects. If you own the Realme 15T, you might want to hold on to it for a while. Alternatively, you might want to look at the OnePlus Nord CE 6 Lite or the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion.
