I wish the touchpad was a bigger differentiator between the two lines. The Yoga 9i's touchpad is slightly larger, but both are mechanical touchpads and basically the same. At its price, the premium Yoga 9i 14 Gen 9 should have a haptic touchpad. With its lively response that's consistent across its entire surface and also customizable, the giant haptic touchpad was one of my favorite parts of the HP Spectre x360 14. With a fantastic OLED display and some of the best-sounding laptop speakers I've ever experienced packaged inside a trim, all-metal chassis, the Yoga 9i 14 Gen 9 delivers premium goods to account for its sky-high price.

But laptops don’t have to be for gaming or work, sometimes they’re the thing we use to unwind and enjoy a good movie. That’s the Yoga 9i in a nutshell. Are you looking for something to serve as a music player, a movie watcher, and an internet browser that’s more powerful than an iPad but still capable of being used like a tablet?

There are areas where the Yoga 9i doesn’t excel. It’s performance is great across all mainstream apps, but nothing particularly special. It’s battery life is good, but a few hours short of stellar. Yet there’s something about the 2-in-1 design, the screen and the keyboard that makes this a great laptop for everyday use, both at home and on the go. It’s beautifully constructed and fabulous to look at, while being fast enough for anything except gaming and the most demanding creative tasks. What’s more, when you look at the price tag, it’s great value to boot.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say the latest Lenovo Yoga 9i is a disappointment, but in a world where every other laptop is taking huge leaps forward in battery life, it’s a shame that the successor to my most beloved laptop took several steps backward in this category. It features the same incredible OLED panel, a sturdy and lightweight aluminum chassis that’s even more lithe, fantastic Intel performance from the latest Meteor Lake processors, and powerful speakers alongside a satisfying keyboard. But seven hours of battery life is rough.

The Yoga is a bit more expensive but slightly lighter than HP's Spectre x360 14, so it stands next to it as an Editors' Choice award holder, matching it spec-for-spec otherwise. You really can't go wrong with either—or the previous Yoga to save cash—if you're seeking a versatile 2-in-1 for anything short of demanding games or workstation apps. Like its utmost rival from HP, the Lenovo Yoga 9i 14 Gen 9 earns our Editors' Choice award in high-end 2-in-1 laptops as an alternative to a similar computing experience.

I like the Yoga 9i Gen 9. A lot. It’s a gorgeous convertible 2-in-1 that’s very well made, and its OLED display and excellent audio make for a fun media experience. It’s also quite fast and reasonably portable. Its one significant flaw is below-average battery life. It also costs around $1,500, 50% more expensive than some other laptops with similar specs. Is a 2-in-1’s flexibility and a stunningly attractive chassis more important to you than all-day battery life? If so, then, by all means, buy the Yoga because only its battery life holds it back from a higher rating.

The Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, Gen 9) is a well-tuned 2-in-1 laptop. Its good cooling with two fans allows decently high CPU clocks even when the Team Blue chip is loaded at max. In this scenario, the temperatures are also under control while the fan can be too noisy for some users. Still, if you don’t need the full power of the Meteor Lake processor, the “Intelligent Cooling” or the “Battery Saving” modes are the way to go if you want to hear less noise. We want to praise once again the Intel Arc (8-Cores) iGPU. When the latter is paired with fast RAM (like the soldered LPDDR5x-7467 MHz memory of this gadget) it can achieve some impressive scores for an integrated solution. For example, it can show 85 FPS in Dota 2 on High settings which could be overwhelming even for some low-end dedicated graphics.

Lenovo is throwing in a couple of sweeteners. Use the part code 83AC000FUK and you’ll receive a swanky cover – complete with a loop for the stylus – and a three-in-one USB-C hub that adds USB-A, VGA and HDMI. These complement the three USB-C ports and one USB-A port tucked into the laptop’s narrow base (there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack, too). It’s a shame the hub doesn’t include an RJ45 port, and while I’m wishing it would also have been nice to see Wi-Fi 7 rather than Wi-Fi 6E. You can configure the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Gen 9 on Lenovo’s website, with options such as 32GB of RAM, a higher-res screen and a grey finish rather than blue. But this pre-configured system is better value, especially as it was on sale for £1,500, a £200 discount, at the time of going to press. Still, I’m not convinced that’s bargain enough. Despite all the quality on show, the price feels like it should be closer to £1,300 to compete with the deluge of laptops currently appearing on shelves.

This is a great laptop for people who want a portable Windows PC, with a familiar processor, enough power to do their day-to-day tasks (and then some), a good battery life, and a beautiful screen. While it’s not classed as ultra-portable, I still think it is incredibly portable with how light and slim it is. 1.32kg is ridiculously light, making it perfect for carrying to and from work or school. This is a reasonably priced, upper-mid-range, portable laptop that will be able to do what you need it to do and more, without costing much more than a decent used car. This is the next level of laptop most people need. Whether you care that this is a “Copilot+ PC” or not, this is a laptop with enough grunt to be used for a long time to come

In my book, that’s an excellent deal, especially if you’re searching for a laptop with flexible 2-in-1 functionality. My daily driver laptop is the Yoga 9i (Gen 7), and I can attest to its ability to run smaller, less demanding games like Stardew Valley and Forager. With the Yoga 9i (Gen 9)’s more powerful CPU, those games will run even better — albeit with quite a bit of noise from the fans. You’ll want to make sure you have a charging cable nearby because battery life isn’t something the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 excels at. That said, at least this laptop features double-sided USB Type-C ports for convenient charging.
