Procesor w testowanym laptopie to Core i7-1065G7, który w ofercie firmy Intel zastąpił jednostkę i7-8565U. Na papierze mowa jest o postępach na polu wydajności CPU i zintegrowanego układu grafiki. Trzeba dodać, że chodzi o procesor z TDP 25 W a nie standardowym TDP 15 W.
Po pierwszych czterech rundach testu renderowania wielowątkowego w aplikacji Cinebench R15 procesor ten osiągał wyniki zbliżone do Core i5-9300H z bliźniaczego laptopa XPS 15. W kolejnych iteracjach tego testu zegary CPU nie były już tak wysokie, co przełożyło się na spadek wydajności o około 20%. Temperatury spadły wtedy do akceptowalnego poziomu.

W testowanym komputerze trafił się mi dysk SSD PCIe o nazwie Toshiba BG4 i pojemności 512 GB, który od dysku Toshiba BG4 256 GB z konfiguracji z Core i3 różni się jedynie pojemnością. Warto wziąć pod uwagę fakt, że w omawianym laptopie pamięć operacyjna jak i SSD są na stałe zespolone z płytą główną (przylutowane), bez możliwości łatwej wymiany.

Wpływ na otoczenie

Jeżeli chodzi o kulturę pracy, znaczących różnic na tle modelu z Core i3 nie ma. Przy małych obciążeniach (przeglądanie internetu, film) omawiany laptop jest bezgłośny lub prawie bezgłośny. Kiedy natomiast zapuści się grę komputerową, wentylatory powoli przyspieszają, aż generowany przez nie hałas osiągnął 43,4 dB(A). To poziom wyższy, niż stwierdzony w teście Della XPS 13 9380 (tego pozbawionego funkcji 2 w 1) z procesorem i5-8265U. Trzeba dodać, że szum pod obciążeniem ma wysoką tonację i tym samym jest irytujący.
Aby usłyszeć cichy dźwięk piszczących cewek, trzeba zbliżyć ucho do klawiatury. Z dala od niej, w pozycji, w jakiej normalnie korzystamy z laptopa, jest on niesłyszalny.

Temperatury
Nagrzewanie obudowy przedstawiało się podobnie, jak w modelu z procesorem Core i3. Bez obciążenia temperatura korpusu osiągnęła maksymalnie 33°C a pod pełnym obciążeniem stwierdzono ponad 51°C. Najgorętsze miejsca znajdują się z dala od podnadgarstnika i gładzika – nawet pod pełnym obciążeniem gorąca była tylko tylna część laptopa.
W teście programu Prime95 (100% zajęcia procesora) temperatura CPU doszła do 99°C. To więcej, niż w większości innych ultrabooków. Przy czym należy podkreślić, że to intencjonalne posunięcie ze strony firm Dell i Intel. Ma to zapewnić utrzymanie wysokiego taktowania a to przekłada się na wyższe osiągi. Działające równolegle programy Prime95 i FurMark spowodowały, że taktowanie procesora zostało obniżone do poziomu 1,3 GHz a wtedy temperatury rdzeni CPU spadły do prawie 70°C.

Podsumowanie
Laptop Dell XPS 13 7390 2 w 1 będzie brany pod uwagę ze względu na nowoczesny procesor i konstrukcję pozwalającą na pracę jako tablet. Dzięki Core i7-1065G7 jest to najszybszy z przetestowanych przez nas do tej pory laptopów Dell XPS 13. Procesor Ice Lake z TDP 25 W jest odczuwalnie szybszy od wcześniej stosowanego Whiskey Lake-U z TDP 15 W.
Z rzeczy, które należałoby poprawić, to na pewno wentylatory nie powinny emitować dźwięku o tak wysokiej tonacji. Niewielkie klawisze strzałek mogłyby być większe. Poza tym trzeba pochwalić matrycę (ze względu na jasny obraz, szeroką paletę barw), czas pracy na akumulatorze oraz niewielkie rozmiary komputera. Ciekawe jest to, że konfiguracje z Core i7 i Core i3 znacznie różnią się wydajnością, ale długość pracy na akumulatorze, kultura pracy i temperatury są w obu przypadkach praktycznie takie same.
