Jeśli szukacie więc podstawowego tabletu bez najlepszej wydajności, ale za to z namiastką wszystkich, nawet bardziej zaawansowanych funkcji – iPad 10,2 będzie bardzo dobrym wyborem. Szczególnie, że w porównaniu do pozostałych tabletów Apple cena wypada faktycznie dość atrakcyjnie.

Apple's 10.2" iPad has been out for around 6 months now, and it's now become a MUCH better iPad than before. There have recently been some amazing software feature additions, including new multitasking and file management features. The best feature is the new cursor support that came with iPadOS 13.4. This basically allows your iPad to use a bluetooth mouse or supported trackpad like the Magic Trackpad 2 to get an actual cursor that you can move around and click on the screen. However, the best way to use this new cursor feature is by putting on a keyboard case that has a built-in trackpad, like the brand new Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case, and that's EXACTLY what we did.

Podstawowy iPad 9. generacji to nie jest żadna nowość. Nie zaskoczy designem, nie ma również niektórych funkcji, które oferują jego drożsi “bracia”. Jest to natomiast świetne narzędzie pracy. To jest tego rodzaju urządzenie, które ma spełniać swoje zadanie. Ma być bezawaryjny i bezproblemowy, ma obsługiwać nasze ulubione aplikacje, a także otrzymywać aktualizacje zabezpieczeń i systemu przez następne kilka lat. I taki właśnie jest nowy, podstawowy iPad. Zmiany, które zostały w nim dokonane względem poprzedniego modelu, może nie wydają się być duże, natomiast nowszy procesor oraz świetny przedni obiektyw sprawiają, że jeszcze bardziej jest on wart swojej ceny. Po poprzedniej generacji odziedziczył na pewno uniwersalność oraz bardzo dobrą baterię, moim zdaniem nieporównywalną do droższych iPadów Pro podobnego rozmiaru.

Despite our reservations over the ageing design, there’s a lot of reasons to recommend the entry-level 9th generation iPad. There are enough improvements here with True Tone support, faster processor, more storage and much improved front camera for clearer FaceTime calls and Centre Stage. Together, those reasons are more than enough to compel someone to upgrade from a pre-2019 iPad, though if they have a more recent model there isn’t the need to make the leap. As we mentioned above, if you’re looking for an iPad specifically with the intention of using the Apple Pencil all the time, we’d recommend the iPad Air or iPad Mini that can use the 2nd generation pencil with its magnetic attachment.

Seriously: The 10th-gen iPad has a lot of my favorite features, but it's more expensive and doesn't have the same case and Pencil situation as fancier iPads do. The iPad Mini costs more, lacks the same keyboard support and is probably too small. The iPad Air has a faster M1 processor, and I personally love its design, but it's a more expensive proposition. And the iPad Pro models (expected to get major upgrades in 2024) are in a totally different price tier. For now, I still think the basic unexciting iPad wins out. Especially if the price hits $300 for holiday season sales. But other sales could change that metric fast. There's still no perfect iPad right now, and in the meantime I'd opt for the cheapest option until things maybe settle down a bit more in the future.

The iPad 9th Generation doesn’t have many significant upgrades over its predecessor (which itself was an iterative update on the iPad 7th Generation), and this feels like a model for those who haven’t upgraded for a while. However, the improvements are relevant and well executed, keeping this affordable tablet at the forefront of the ‘all rounder’ domain. With a camera set-up better suited for our increasingly online lives, as well as sound quality that maximises Apple’s own much-improved music streaming service, the iPad 9th Generation is still the best tablet in its field. If your current device has seen better days, or you're looking for an entry-level model for video calls that can also hold plenty of content to keep family members occupied, then this is an excellent option.

Outside of a faster processor (that most won't notice), double the storage (that will be noticed), and a much better front camera (that's very nice), the 9th-generation iPad is about the same as the 8th-generation iPad. Which was about the same as the 7th-generation iPad. Apple faces so little real competition in the affordable tablet space that it's not doing much to improve the iPad. It doesn't need to! It's a shame, because it's past time for some substantial upgrades. The iPad Air is where we hoped the standard iPad would be by now—slimmer bezels, a better display, support for the second-generation Apple Pencil (it's still crazy that Apple sells two, incompatible, different styli with the same name), and Touch ID in the side button. Maybe next year will be the year the iPad gets the facelift it deserves, hopefully without blowing up the price. Until then, this is a more-than-serviceable budget tablet that still provides a better overall experience than comparable Android tablets, thanks in large part to the strength of Apple's tablet software ecosystem.

Even taking the low price into account, the 9th Gen iPad is the least impressive product Apple has released all year. It is, more so than any other fruit-branded gadget, in dire need of an update. The design, with its chunky bezels and Home button, feels recycled from a past era. Moreover, the iPad supports older Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular standards, it lacks compatibility with newer stylus and keyboard accessories, and a Lightning connection is still used in place of a favored USB-C port. And yet, the iPad remains the best tablet for those on a strict budget. Leaning heavily on its A13 Bionic chip, this slate delivers reliable performance, long battery life, and a large, bright display at an affordable price. I can't say that about many other budget tablets. Microsoft's Surface Go 3 and Samsung's Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (and even the pricier Galaxy Tab S7 FE) are severely underpowered, making them a poor choice for anything beyond watching movies or browsing the web. As such, the iPad is the best option if your budget ends at $400.

The iPad 2021 is the same old formula for Apple, take what works and tweak it in certain places to make it better than the last one. So, on the one hand, I could criticise the regular iPad 10.2 for its somewhat dated design (now in only two colours) and nitpick about having old wireless standards and speakers at the same end, but the truth is, the average person buying this model from Apple’s range won’t care or likely even notice. I can really only applaud Apple for adding some sizable upgrades for the same cost, or in the UK, even cheaper than the last model. Double the storage, a new processor, hugely upgraded front camera and improved screen are by no means small additions. Overall, this remains the best value tablet on the market and is very easy to recommend. You just might be tempted by the iPad mini if you’re considering the more expensive model of the iPad 2021.

Apple didn’t do a whole lot to improve its baseline tablet year over year, but then it didn’t really have to. The entry-level iPad was already ahead of the competition by a significant margin in terms of value and performance. Apple made some meaningful tweaks anyway. The refreshed display is easier on the eyes. The upgraded processor gives the iPad even more of a performance edge. And the overhauled user-facing camera makes the iPad a much more enjoyable personal and professional video chat platform. Consider the vast existing app library, wide range of compatible accessories, and software update commitment from Apple, and this all adds up to a more complete package than ever for this $329 slate. That’s not to say there aren’t things holding the iPad back. One of the biggest detractors is its lock-in to a single user, not to mention its lack of a dedicated kids mode. This simply doesn’t work for families that need multi-user support. I’d prefer to see real stereo speakers on a tablet like this, and it would be nice to see Apple make strides with battery life.

But be warned, S$499 only gets you the basic Wi-Fi only model with 64GB. Opt for more storage or cellular connectivity and prices start to go up real quick. Add accessories and it is possible to end up with an iPad that’s over a grand. As I said last year in my review of the 8th-generation iPad, “Apple doesn’t really do cheap.” Still, this is Apple’s most affordable tablet. The iPad 10.2 (2021), also known as the 9th generation iPad is quite a familiar device. Apple, more or less, refreshed the 8th and the 7th generation iPad, before that, once again, giving it an Apple A13 Bionic chipset, a new, fancy ultrawide FaceTime HD 12MP selfie camera and bumping up the base storage to 64GB. Not too bad, given the £319, $329 and AU$499 starting MSPR for the Wi-Fi variant and £439, $459 and AU$699 for the LTE-capable one. The value proposition is still very much there, even more so now with the new additions. We have no doubt that the iPad 10.2 (2021) will sell well. It definitely has a target audience of its own. Honestly, it is pretty much impossible to beat as an affordable entry into the Apple ecosystem or just a no-frills, little-friction supplementary device to just pick up occasionally so you can enjoy iOS apps on the bigger screen. The things that kind of rub us the wrong way about it mostly have to do with the well-overdue total redesign to finally elevate the vanilla iPad to the level of its siblings.

People I know often ask me what laptop or tablet they should buy and, if the budget is low, I’ll invariably ask: “Have you considered buying an iPad?” That’s because the cheapest Apple tablet is a wonderfully flexible machine that I know will do the job for them and you can relegate it to use as a mere web browser or a Netflix viewer. Add a keyboard, however, and you have something you can also use for work and email on the move, with a whole world of apps to choose from that turn it from what might look like a fairly basic machine into a device that you can do almost anything with. And the upgrades to the front-facing camera, display and overall performance only serve to strengthen its appeal on this front. If you have around £300 to £500 to spend and you’re looking to get yourself something that can turn its hand to any job, the iPad (2021) remains the tablet to buy. Apple’s strategy for its basic iPad must be working because here we are now with what is really the same iPad as last year and the year before but with some improved bits. And as uninteresting as that may be, I don’t think many people would complain. Furthermore, the entry-level model now comes with a much more usable 64GB of storage. The cynics would say that it’s still not a lot, but I think it’s sufficient for readers who intend to stream most of their content and who have much of their data in the cloud. Besides, if you require more storage, there’s the step-up model with 256GB. Lest we forget, this is Apple’s most basic iPad and I’d rather they keep prices down as much as possible.

Although Apple’s entry-level iPad hasn’t seen a design refresh in years, it also hasn't seen a price increase, and for $329, the ninth-generation iPad is a killer deal. Overall, I could do just about everything I can with my iPad Pro on the new iPad. There are a few slight changes and compromises here — but for the consumers Apple is targeting, those things might be moot. The iPad remains a very good tablet at a fair price. If you want something more modern, I don’t blame you, and would instead point you toward the iPad Air, which hits a sweet spot of performance, features and price. But its small screen makes it a device for a person with very specific needs. The 10.2-inch screen of the basic iPad lends itself better for a wider range of use cases. The Lightning port is a hindrance, though. iPadOS supports external drives and a plethora of accessories — even audio interfaces. So, if you don’t have 3rd party accessories that came with some type of Lightning cable themselves, you may need to invest in a dongle or two. It’s also a bit weird that Apple wants to market these for school and kids, yet sticks to the boring Silver and Space Gray. Feels like a missed opportunity.

Apple’s entry-level iPad remains one of the best tablets around, but an ever-stronger lineup of sibling iPads have put it in a somewhat odd position. This new 9th generation device is more powerful than ever, yet it’s clear that Apple will have to refresh its design over the next couple of years. The 2020 iPad Air and also-new 2021 iPad Mini binned the traditional Home button for a Touch ID sensor on the sleep/wake button and this arrangement will surely come to the entry-level device, too. It’s just a matter of when. So does the 2021 version of the entry-level iPad still make sense to buy? For many, it certainly does – we’ll get to that – so let’s firstly consider the design of the latest-gen tablet.

On to the iPad. This is the ninth generation iPad and it’s mainly a spec-bump update to last year’s 8th generation iPad. On the outside, nothing has really changed. The dimensions are the same, they weigh about the same, and they have the same buttons and ports in the same places. This means this iPad is the only tablet that Apple currently makes that uses the Lightning port. Support for accessories is also unchanged. So this iPad still only works with Apple’s first-generation Apple Pencil and there’s a Smart Connector that works with Apple’s Smart Keyboard.

This is still the best cheap tablet if you want something that can be a surprisingly powerful creative tool as well as a way to watch video and browse social media. What the iPad gives you over even cheaper tablets is headroom – it does all the basics perfectly, and then you also get into video editing, illustration, music-making and any number of other things in exactly the same apps that people run on the iPad Pro. It's a shame that it still doesn't offer proper stereo sound, considering how many people will use it to watch videos on – and better cameras would be nice too, so that it can be an even better creative tool for kids. And I'll certainly celebrate when the old Apple Pencil is finally replaced with the new version on this cheaper model. But if you can't live with these issues, then it's good to know that the iPad Air solves every single one of them. But if you can live with them and want a tablet that's excellent value for work or play, the iPad 10.2-inch should still be top of your list.

The 9th-gen Apple iPad is the best budget tablet, best budget computer, and all you need to experience the bulk of what Apple has to offer. Compared to other iPad models, the iPad is clearly the best value. Yes, the iPad Pro is faster, has Face ID, and has a nicer display. That’s all great, but also optional. You’ll be hard-pressed to find an app on the App Store that doesn’t perform well on the iPad. The iPad also supports every key Apple service and accessory: Arcade, iCloud, TV+, Pay, Handoff, iMessage, the first-gen Apple Pencil, and more. The value holds up if you consider competitors. Samsung has a few good tablets, but the Android operating system hasn’t prioritized features useful to tablets and 2-in-1s such as external mouse support and multi-tasking. Both features are present in Android but executed with less elegance than iOS. Android also has an app support issue. Apps often lack tablet-specific support and instead work as oversized smartphone apps.

Apple iPad 10. generacji to ciekawa propozycja dla osób nie mających jeszcze tabletu lub użytkowników tabletów Apple sprzed kilku generacji, którzy z jakiegoś powodu nie chcą kupić pod każdym względem lepszego i bardziej zaawansowanego modelu iPad Air lub oszczędzić paru stówek na zakupie poprzednika. Jeśli zapomnielibyśmy zupełnie o innych tabletach Apple, mógłbym po prostu napisać, że iPad 10. generacji to sprzęt ładny, dopracowany, działający w sposób płynny i mający wszystko, czego oczekuje większość użytkowników domowych. Nic tylko brać. Problem z tym urządzeniem jest jednak taki, że ma gigantyczną konkurencję w postaci innych urządzeń Apple - znacznie tańszych i niewiele gorszych lub oferujących o wiele więcej za symboliczną dopłatą. Apple iPad 9. generacji to opcja odczuwalnie tańsza i niewiele mu ustępująca... po prostu rozsądniejsza? Najnowszy iPad Air jest z kolei pod wieloma względami lepszy, a realnie kosztuje tylko 200 złotych więcej. iPad 10. generacji nie jest zły. Po prostu w podwyższonej cenie można było się spodziewać więcej.

Apple has improved just about every aspect of the entry-level iPad. The revised design is attractive, the screen is very good, the upgraded processor is faster, and the new camera configuration means better photos and more natural video calls. Wireless performance is quicker across the board, the tablet now offers true stereo sound, and Apple's accessories can transform it into a portable workstation. There's no question that the 10th-generation iPad is the best tablet you can get for $349. It does everything a tablet should do and does it well. Apple is mostly competing against its own iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. If you truly value the small form factor, the iPad mini is the way to go, though at three years old it is a bit outdated in terms of specs and performance.

Should you go for the iPad 10th Generation? Yes and no. Yes, because it features a powerful chipset that breezes through everyday tasks. It also has a chic design that looks classy and is a breath of fresh air with narrow bezels and no home button. The stereo setup is perfect for those movie nights. The battery life is great, and you won't need to worry about plugging it in if you're a light user. No, because the rear camera is decent under perfect conditions, but struggles elsewhere. While the LCD display is the best compared to other LCD tablets in the market, it can't hold a candle against OLED displays. Oh, and viewing it in the Sun can be problematic due to low peak brightness. And if you're someone who loves to multitask, you'll be missing out on the amazing Stage Manager feature as well.

Apple’s 10th Gen iPad is a powerful tablet that excels in its performance, surpassing competitors in productivity-adjacent tasks. It’s perfect for day-to-day use, and even if you plan to lose yourself within the throes of a compelling song or movie, it has a bright, vivid display and powerful speaker system to match. But it’s also expensive, with the addition of the Magic Keyboard Folio, Cellular compatibility and Apple Pencil (plus its adapter) bringing the tablet up to $1,100. While you can purchase the base 64GB model for just $449, its battery life is still an hour shorter than the previous generation, and it ran out of juice the quickest among competitors. Apple should also expand the aesthetic choices for the Magic Keyboard Folio, as the beautiful reflective blue tablet transformed into a boring expanse of plain white while the accessories were attached. If you’re on the hunt for a slightly more affordable but equally fantastic tablet, the OnePlus Pad is a great choice. Otherwise, the 10th Gen iPad will not do you wrong if you’re willing to invest.

The iPad (10th gen) is a tablet that looks and feels new, and that’s a welcome change over the last few iterations. I appreciate the sleeker design and bigger display, though some may miss the headphone jack from the 9th gen iPad. I also like the Touch ID-enabled power button, repositioned front camera and USB-C charging, as well as the upgraded A14 Bionic chip and 5G connectivity. However, $449 is a lot of money to spend on this tablet. Yes, Apple is keeping the $329 iPad 9th gen around, but it still stings to see a $120 jump from one generation to the next. My bigger issue is with the Apple Pencil situation; it’s just way too awkward to charge this thing, and there’s nowhere to store the stylus when not in use. Do I think the iPad 2022 is worth the splurge over last year’s model? Mostly, as this is a more future-proof tablet. Overall, the iPad 10th gen is one of the best tablets, but I can’t unequivocally say that it’s the best tablet for most people because of the higher price and Apple Pencil blunder.

Obviously, the elephant in the room with this newest iPad is its price: $449 is not a small ask, especially when compared with the $329 iPad (9th Gen) that Apple still sells, and the fact that you're only getting 64GB of onboard storage. Just my initial batch of apps and services filled up 15GB on my tester. I'm now breaching the 30GB mark after months of data and cache storage. Get the 256GB variant if you can. If you're shopping on a budget, the 2021 iPad should make the most sense. Apple clearly thinks that, too. But I can't help but compare the 10th-gen iPad with the rest of Apple's hierarchy, all of which remain pricier and, in several aspects, are not as good as the vanilla model. In the broader context, here's what I'd suggest buying now:

The iPad 10th gen is a strange proposition. It’s an excellent tablet, with a good screen, strong performance and plenty of really noticeable upgrades over the previous generation iPad. But thanks to a price increase, this no longer feels like a budget iPad for everyone – by keeping the older model around too, Apple seems to agree. If you’re in the UK and want a 256GB iPad, Magic Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil then you’re going to be spending £1067 – more than it costs for the MacBook Air M1. I would also suggest those thinking about this iPad also look at the iPad Air. The 2022 version of this device is available often for around the £570 mark, while the 2020 model has dropped below £500 and is often available at that price. The price jump isn’t as great between generations in the US, with the iPad 10th gen starting at $449 and the previous generation at $329. If you’re happy to pay what Apple is asking then the package here is very good and easy to recommend. Whether it’s worth it for you or not is dependent on whether its use case is relevant to you or not as the 9th Gen might be able to do it just as well but at its current state, I wouldn’t recommend artists to buy this with the Apple Pencil to do their work.

It’s debatable whether Apple needed to introduce yet another 10-11in tablet but the iPad 10th generation does a very good job of justifying its existence. It’s nippy enough for everyday apps and productivity tasks, it’s well made, the screen is excellent and the cameras are good, too, particularly the front facing one, which has finally been moved to where it should be for a productivity tablet. It isn’t without its problems. I’m not a fan of the way you need to use an adapter to charge the 1st generation Apple Pencil. Plus, when you boil it down, it isn’t that much more accomplished than the 9th generation model that went before it, and especially not given the £130 premium. It’s not a bad tablet, then – far from it, it’s very good – but if you’re looking for a cheap iPad, I’d recommend you buy a 9th generation model while they’re still available.

So the Apple iPad 10th generation comes with many improvements and is finally in line with its siblings in terms of design, charging capabilities, and more features. While it doesn’t allow you to use the full might of iPadOS 16 with the A14 Bionic chip, it is still a very good all-rounder in the tablet space and is perfect for someone looking for their first iPad. Apple has finally listened to users and made some important improvements. These include a more premium design, a USB type-C port, camera placement, and more. However, the display is not the best we have seen in tablets in this range, and the iPad Pro isn’t much of a gaming device. Furthermore, Apple could have added support for the second-generation Apple Pencil, and the hiked price over last year’s model is something that may discourage a lot of buyers. With everything said and done, the 10th generation iPad does offer a more refined experience and comes with many important enhancements. It is still a pretty good device for things like writing, designing, or sketching. The entry-level still supports only the first-generation Apple Pencil, which works perfectly, just the charging mechanism is inconvenient and will require users to buy an additional type-C to a Lightning port. Answering the question at hand - is the new iPad worth its Rs 44,900 starting price? For those looking for their first iPad, yes, the 10th gen iPad offers a proper iPad experience, despite its shortcomings. However, if you are in the market for a tablet under Rs 50,000, there are better, more powerful options in the Android space.

In isolation, this is an excellent iPad. The design has been improved drastically, the performance remains top-notch, and the enhanced camera performance make it a near-perfect devices for most people. The problem is the positioning of the iPad in the iPad line up. This isn’t a budget iPad anymore and Apple already had an ‘affordable’ premium iPad in the form of the iPad Air. Apple had it easy with the entry-level iPad as it was perhaps the easiest of Apple devices to recommend. Want a tablet? Don’t look beyond the entry-level iPad — something that Apple knows and which is why that model hasn’t been discontinued and is selling at Rs 33,990. The iPad (10th-gen) right now seems to be targeting a very niche audience — those who don’t want a ‘basic’ iPad but are also not ready to get the more expensive iPad Air. Is that audience big enough? I am not so sure about it. Apple has made iterations that make sense and were much-needed but with the 9th-gen iPad still available, it’s hard to see too many people opting for the new 10th-gen iPad. The iPad (10th-gen) is a great tablet and Apple doesn’t have to worry too much about the competition — except the one that comes in-house from the iPad Air and the 9th-gen iPad.

However, Apple has also priced it considerably higher at Rs. 44,900 for the base 64GB model. Our top-spec model with 256GB of storage and cellular costs quite a bit more. If you add the Magic Keyboard Folio, this pushes the price over Rs. 1,00,000. Should you buy the iPad 10th generation as a laptop replacement? Unless you want a portable, lightweight machine with a touch display that supports the Apple Pencil, we can suggest getting the base model. It's a good option for those who want an iPad that looks like the Air, but maybe don't want to spend so much. The 256GB variant of the iPad 10th generation is a tough sell since for that price, you can get the base model of the iPad Air (M1) which has the M1 SoC and supports the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. While the iPad 10th generation is a solid offering, its pricing in India makes it less appealing. The iPad Air (M1) can be found online for as low as Rs. 53,000 and if you can stretch your budget, it makes sense getting it over this iPad. There's also the iPad mini 2021 (Review) which is a compact and powerful tablet that looks similar to the new iPad, but with a smaller screen and a higher price tag.

The iPad 10th Generation is a mega upgrade over the antique iPad 9th Gen model – its new design coupled to a better display and faster overall performance make a good case for this new kid on the block. However, at its starting price of Rs. 44,900, the iPad 10th Gen just as a tablet is too pricey for what it offers, especially for a device that is a culmination of stuff from the old parts bin. Apple hasn't done enough to justify the higher price. The display could have been much better, and so could the chipset (the A14 is good but the A15 would make better sense in 2022). Above all that, Apple persuades you to buy its new Magic Keyboard Folio in order to make it a proper laptop replacement. Adding a Rs. 25,000 accessory to the base iPad 10 puts it almost on par with several Core i5 Windows laptops, and doing the same on a 256GB model pushes it to the MacBook Air category. Even if you want an exorbitantly priced iPad, the iPad Pro M2 makes more sense, and a cheaper Bluetooth keyboard would do the trick instead of the Magic Keyboard accessory. Additionally, the weird case of the 1st Gen Apple Pencil and a new Lightning to USB-C dongle makes it all…aargh! Why buy the iPad 10th Generation then, especially when the 9th Gen iPad is selling at Rs. 30000? Any sane mind wouldn't. That older iPad may look old but it does all the same iPad things at a much lower price. Yes, the new iPad 10th Gen is a big upgrade over its predecessor but the higher price tag makes it difficult to justify, even for an iPad fan. I would rather spend more and get the iPad Air for its M1 chip and a much better display. Maybe when Apple kills the 9th Gen iPad, this iPad 10th Gen becomes the de-facto choice for budget iPad shoppers. But even then, Apple just made it easy for tablet shoppers to look at what Samsung has to offer.

Judged in complete isolation, Apple’s 10th generation iPad is a great tablet. It feels more like a modern member of the iPad family than a budget afterthought thanks to its flattened edges, revamped Touch ID sensor, and four equal bezels. The performance is everything you could ask for from an everyday tablet with a big display, and the battery life is nothing to scoff at. Anyone with experience in the Apple ecosystem can pick up iPadOS 16 and know where everything is and how it operates within minutes. So, the iPad 10th Gen is fresh and new, finally ditching the old-school design that has graced the lineup for years, and has scored some cool new tricks to boot, elevating it on a mostly equal playing field with the rest of the iPad lineup. However, it has also migrated from its usual super-affordable position, which remains the residence of last year's iPad 9th Gen, for a slightly more premium price point. It's still a great bang for the buck, don't get us wrong, but the value-for-money factor is not as good this time around. There's nothing inherently wrong with the iPad 10th Gen: it still gets the basics right and elevates the base iPad experience to new dimensions. For school or for not-so-professional use cases, the 10th-generation iPad is hard to beat, but so is the iPad 9th Gen, and for slightly more money, the iPad Air is really hard to pass up. Should you get the new iPad 10th Gen? I'd recommend it if you're not willing to break the bank on a tablet, but would also carefully consider my choices. If it fits perfectly within yuor budget, you should definitely short-list this one.

Hands on with the all new iPad 2022

We have the new Apple Smart Folio. This is pretty much the same as before, it just folds over and it’s a bit of a front and back cover to protect your iPad. But the one that’s really cool, is the Magic Keyboard Folio. Now this one I’m excited about because it is a two-piece design, which even the other Magic Keyboard that you get on the iPad Pro doesn’t do, meaning that you can have just the keyboard attached, or just the back of it attached to protect the back, or both! Also, the keyboard now has as a track pad which is fantastic, driving your iPad with a trackpad is just a new experience. It’s almost more laptop-like so that’s a really good thing. And lastly, it uses the Smart Connector as well meaning that it will power the keyboard and sync to it, so you don’t have to worry about Bluetooth connections or anything else like that. It’s got a little stand, so you can fold out a stand and then the keyboard part folds down. So it’s super cool and this is definitely a good attachment to have. I really like it and I think that it’ll make it more like a laptop.

The iPad 10th gen is a strange proposition. It’s an excellent tablet, with a good screen, strong performance and plenty of really noticeable upgrades over the previous generation iPad. But thanks to a price increase, this no longer feels like a budget iPad for everyone – by keeping the older model around too, Apple seems to agree. If you’re in the UK and want a 256GB iPad, Magic Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil then you’re going to be spending £1067 – more than it costs for the MacBook Air M1. I would also suggest those thinking about this iPad also look at the iPad Air. The 2022 version of this device is available often for around the £570 mark, while the 2020 model has dropped below £500 and is often available at that price. The price jump isn’t as great between generations in the US, with the iPad 10th gen starting at $449 and the previous generation at $329. If you’re happy to pay what Apple is asking then the package here is very good and easy to recommend. This remains better than most of the best Android tablets thanks to the excellent app ecosystem and it’ll likely be supported for years to come with iPadOS updates.

Obviously, the elephant in the room with this year's iPad is its price: $449 is not a small ask, especially when compared with the $329 iPad (9th Gen) that Apple still sells, and the fact that you're only getting 64GB of onboard storage. This iPad is more like an “Air lite,” and it’s a common strategy for the company. In 2020, Apple took the iPad Pro design and put it in the iPad Air and subsequently bumped the price. Now Apple is doing that again, taking the Air design, putting it in the base model, and making it more expensive. My hope is that within a year or two, Apple adds support for the second-generation Pencil to this model and cuts the price below $400 again. That would make for an iPad that is easy to recommend. There are some fair criticisms to be made about the new iPad, but it’s still an excellent machine. I’m a little frustrated about the weird accessory support and the fact that the device has USB 2.0, but in a vacuum, this iPad is a killer tablet. It doesn’t exist in a vacuum, of course. In its current lineup, it’s hard to figure out if this is a more expensive base-model iPad, or a cheaper iPad Air. If you are planning on using your tablet for heavier productivity, the iPad Air M1 is a better solution. It pretty much solves all the issues I have with the 10th-gen iPad. It supports the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Gen 2, and its M1 chip makes it more powerful, and capable of supporting new software. The only downsides? The higher price and the front-facing camera placement. But most folks will likely be using iPads in the lower price range for watching movies, playing occasional games, browsing the web, checking emails, and keeping the kids quiet for a few minutes. You know, iPad things. Those are things that the 9th-generation iPad can do perfectly well. If you want an iPad for basic tasks like that, you should seriously consider the 9th-gen or even a refurbished 8th-generation model. There’s a sliver of the market in between the two. If you don’t mind spending a little more for an iPad with a bigger screen and a modern design, but don’t want to stretch to the iPad Air, then the 10th-gen iPad is for you. You won’t be disappointed.

Microsoft's Surface Go 3 is the obvious competitor on that front, and boasts a cheaper starting price, though by the time you reach a less-frustrating hardware configuration — and add in the optional keyboard and pen — the Windows tablet's price is about on par with Apple's. Chrome OS, meanwhile, has some reasonable options, though we'll probably need to see what next year's Android-based Pixel Tablet offers to see Google's most direct alternative. As a package, then, Apple's offer this year really does feel well suited to its target audience. I suspect a lot of people who might consider an M1 MacBook Air would be just as much at home doing the same tasks on the new iPad with the Magic Keyboard Folio. I wish the latter was $50 to $100 less expensive, but it's still a pairing that starts at $698 — or $848 with the useful integrated 5G that Apple continues to withhold from its laptop range. The same sort of setup with the old iPad felt a little more cramped, and the typing experience was less refined with its more basic keyboard cover. With proper keys this time around, and pushing the screen out to better fill the available space, the 2022 iPad feels less like a budget compromise. As a result, while you could go cheaper, you probably shouldn't.

On the back of this iPad we get a single 12MP wide camera with autofocus, Smart HDR 3, capable of recording videos at up to 4K, 60FPS, which is quite impressive for an affordable tablet. Perhaps more notably, this iPad also gets a 12MP ultra wide landscape front camera, which is the perfect positioning for video calls. Previous budget iPads had it in the center of the right bezel (when the device was in landscape), which was quite less than ideal. Center Stage is here too! Thanks to that front camera being ultra wide, this feature is feasible, and available. It basically makes the front camera auto zoom at your face and keep you in the center of the video call frame, even if you're moving around. It's great for most mainstream use cases and is the ideal tablet for home, school, work, etc. With the power of the AppStore and A16, it can do almost anything. For everything else - there are the Air and Pro modes. The Android tablet segment has grown in the last few years with some solid offers, so if you are not dead set on the iPad OS, you may want to check out what Xiaomi, OnePlus and Samsung have on offer. At the end of the day, this €399 iPad will sell well because it's the cheapest iPad available and it ties in nicely with Apple's ecosystem of devices. Cheap does not mean bad, because this device is well-executed and is quite powerful. We only wish the screen was more contrasty and the speakers were boomier, but less demanding users will easily look past these flaws and will appreciate the smooth user experience.

After a week letting the iPad take the wheel for a lot of what I’d normally do on my laptop or phone, I’m happy to say that even Apple’s entry-level tablet offers a pretty good (if not great) experience. So, while I will argue that a more-affordable iPad should exist, there’s nothing that bad about this one, as should be the case when we’re talking about a $350 gadget that’s either the second- or third-most-important screen in your living room. At the end of the day, I’d argue that the vast majority of those who want a tablet should probably get the basic iPad. Only those looking to sync text messages with an Android device or desire a windowed app experience really need to look elsewhere.

The regular iPad (A16) is an excellent model if you’re looking for an Apple tablet that doesn’t cost the earth and delivers the basics very well. It offers a superb build quality, solid performance and a great battery life, alongside an intuitive software experience from iPadOS. The display isn’t as good as the iPad Air (M3), there’s no Apple Intelligence support and as with other iPads, charging is slow and accessories have to be bought separately. This iPad is almost half the price of the iPad Air (M3) however, and compared to the 2022 model, you get a performance boost, more RAM and double the storage for that money, none of which you can really argue with.

So, wrapping up this review, I guess it’s pretty clear that the 2025 iPad is a solid entry-level tablet. It’s really not much of an upgrade over the 10th Generation iPad but better performance and more storage for less money? That’s always a good thing in my books! The one dilemma you always had with base iPads on previous models was how they had laughably low storage on the cheapest configuration. So if you’ve been looking to buy an affordable iPad, I don’t think it gets better than this. Although you don’t care about iPads and just want a reliable midrange tablet for everything, I think you should wait for the Xiaomi Pad 7 (review) instead. That thing has an equally premium design and powerful performance on top of a smoother 144Hz display and also arguably better software experience. Even the accessories, like a stylus and a keyboard, are much more affordable for the Xiaomi Pad 7 versus the iPad.

Although the iPad doesn’t compare favourably on price terms with its Android rivals, its display disappoints and its battery life is so-so, it’s still the best tablet around in its price range and that’s because of iPadOS and the sheer range of serious, tablet-specific software you can get on the platform. Androids options aren’t nearly as good. It easily handles the sort of things we generally need our computers to do, like social media and online shopping. And a tablet is easier to use while lounging on a couch than a notebook will ever be. Apple speed-boosted the iPad 11 with an A16 processor, making an already good tablet just a bit better. But it didn’t go far enough to let the computer make use of Apple Intelligence, a puzzling failure. Still, this is a brilliant product for the price.
