We find plenty to like about the Dell Latitude 9440 2-in-1 in laptop mode. The display is first-rate, delivering excellent color and brightness, and the keyboard is a huge win as well, with a frameless design and an enormous touchpad with one-touch Zoom controls. Its battery life is also near the top of our charts. But in tablet mode, the 9440 shows its faults, with a hard-edged palm rest and a bit of extra heft. Dell's simplified port selection is fine if you already have a collection of adapters or a docking station, but maddening if you just want to plug in an HDMI monitor. And except for battery life, the convertible fails to show a major performance boost from Intel's 13th Gen hardware versus the equivalent 12th Gen Core i7 chip we tested in the Latitude 9430 last year. That's not enough to keep the Latitude from an excellent score, but it does keep it from Editors' Choice honors.

Over the years, I've personally only coveted a few laptop models and brands, because I have very particular tastes when it comes to this type of device. My needs are basically productivity and web tasks, along with some light content creation when I'm on the road for business. I prefer the 14-inch notebook format, becuase for me it's a perfect balance of petite size with ample screen real estate. I also prefer 1600p resolution,16:10 format displays, so yes, Dell hit my sweet spot here. That said, Dell also built a well-balance, super premium machine with the Latitude 9440 and I like it so much, I'd easily consider this a "daily driver" candidate. At $2,789 as configured here (Starting $1,919), the Dell Latitude 9440 2-in-1 isn't cheap, but all told pricing is competitive with other high-performance, premium devices in this class.

There’s no denying that the Dell Latitude 9440 is a solid 2-in-1 laptop that offers powerful performance backed up by a gorgeous display, alongside a sturdy aluminum chassis and strong hinge that makes it feel like a truly premium product. But its $3,000+ price point is excessive when considering its bizarre keyboard design, awkward trackpad, less-than-great battery life and underwhelming SSD speeds.If you’re looking for a less costly business laptop with great performance and a solid display, we recommend the Asus ExpertBook B9450. But if you are more than willing to put down the money for it, the Dell Latitude 9440 2-in-1 will deliver in its excellent performance and hypnotizing screen.

If you are looking for a small device that is snappy and comfortable for work, the Dell Latitude 13 7340 should be on your shortlist. The laptop offers great build quality alongside comfortable input devices. The performance is good for the class. The optional Core i5-1345U can maintain high clocks in short loads and the clocks in medium and long loads are still good which is a true achievement for this kind of laptop. In addition to that, the comfort under load is surprisingly good. The fan remains quiet even when the CPU is doing the heavy lifting for a long time and in this case, the keyboard doesn’t feel hot to the touch. The display 1200p IPS display (Chimei–Innolux 9YPWH-133JCA (CMN13C8; N133JCA-EEK)) is PWM-free and has wide viewing angles.

From the outset, something special about the 9450 spoke loudly to my pragmatic side. It exudes efficiency at every turn. Who needs a performance powerhouse when it can run for over 19 hours on battery? The issue is that power users, those who might want a Latitude, need battery life and the ability to sprint to a computed conclusion. This machine is running a three-legged race, with two of its legs heading in opposite directions. When you factor in Dell's high cost of cutting-edge hardware, the market for this machine might be small, assuming IT managers are still researching buying decisions. This might make it perfect for the executive class, as they're unlikely to notice its limitations and will be happy to find the battery isn't flat when they occasionally pick it up.

Some businesses may be similarly surprised by a laptop that only offers USB-C ports, with two on the left and a third on the right. Aside from a 3.5mm combo jack and security lock, that’s your lot. Dell provides a tiny USB-C to USB-A dongle, and it’s just about small enough to stay in a port permanently, but there’s plenty of space for other ports on this 16.3mm-thick chassis so it’s an oddly restrictive choice. Perhaps Dell is looking to the future rather than the past, recognizing that in five years USB-C ports will be the default, and that certainly reflects the progressive feel of the Latitude 9450 as a whole. Ports and price aside, I can’t find anything to fault in this high-quality convertible.

We like the Dell Latitude 9450 (2-in-1). This expensive transformer offers a premium and solid aluminum build, a comfortable keyboard, and an accurate touchpad. The overall performance is good because the cooling with two fans is doing its job well. The Core Ultra 7 165U P and E cores boost to 3.70 GHz / 3.20 GHz in short and medium loads and around 2.40 GHz in longer stress. That’s more than enough for home or office work. The comfort under full load is fine – the fans aren’t noisy and the keyboard doesn’t get hot. This doesn’t apply to the fast NVMe that reaches whooping 80°C during benchmarking.

The Dell Latitude 9450 2-in-1 is a perfectly serviceable business convertible that falls competitively short on performance. Compared with several other laptops with similar specs, the Dell falls behind. It's not unbearably slow, and it's arguably overpowered for undemanding tasks like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. But if you need a 14-inch machine for video editing or 3D rendering, this isn't it. On the positive side, the Latitude is a sleek laptop with lengthy battery life. Nor does it compromise on the keyboard, touchpad, webcam, or speakers. Its wireless connectivity is excellent, though you can't connect an HDMI monitor or USB-A peripheral without a dongle.

The Dell Latitude has a lot going for it. It features a premium and robust ultralight build. Decent I/O port selection (including 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports), fantastic battery life, and some neat new features like the collaboration touchpad. While the number of AI tasks is limited for now, the presence of an NPU offers some degree of futureproofing. Of course, compact laptops like this always have heating issues when under load so that’s worth keeping in mind. Additionally, we would have liked a better display. Overall, we would still say that the Dell Latitude 7350 Ultralight is a fantastic laptop for business professionals looking for an AI enabled ultralight laptop on the go. The Dell Latitude series of business laptops is back with its 2024 iteration featuring Intel’s new Core Ultra lineup of processors.
