Test Toshiba Tecra R10

Ostatnimi czasy zwątpiliśmy w laptopy Toshiby, producenta z tradycjami i cieszącego sie nadal dużą renomą. Japońska firma przestawiła się bowiem na koszmarnie niepraktyczne błyskotki. Kontakt z modelem Tecra R10 kazał nam jednak stwierdzić, że talent do konstruowania dobrych laptopów jeszcze w Toshibie nie zginął.

Po pozytywnym wstępie wypada zacząć od zalet Tecry R10.

Laptop ten jest w stanie zrobić dobre wrażenie choćby w ciągu szybkich i pobieżnych oględzin. Powstaje ono prawdopodobnie dzięki temu, że srebrny kolor obudowy kojarzy się z metalem, a do tego notebook ma smukłą sylwetkę. Już w pierwszych minutach obcowania z tym sprzętem Toshiba podbija serce oceniającego.

Zachęcony użytkownik bierze tedy Tecrę do rąk własnych i korzystne wrażenie zostaje pogłębione tym, że R10 okazuje się bardzo lekka. Jest dobrze - przy budowaniu dobrego wizerunku trzeba iść za ciosem, żeby uwiarygodnić pierwsze dobre wrażenie.

To trochę szokujące, ale ten laptop z 14-calowym ekranem waży niespełna 1,9 kg. To nieoceniona zaleta. Korzystając z R10 w swobodnej pozycji siedzącej można bowiem podpierać sobie notebook dłonią, zamiast trzymać go na kolanach, i sterować nim drugą ręką. W ten sposób wrażliwsze części ciała nie są narażone na niekorzystne oddziaływanie nagrzewającej się obudowy (jej spód robi się ciepły, kiedy oglądamy w sieci chociażby strony wykorzystujące flash).

Trzeba z całą mocą zaznaczyć, że Tecra R10 nie jest niestety ideałem solidności i montażu. Co prawda magnezowy korpus jest bardzo sztywny, ale już napęd optyczny, kiedy chwyci się boczną ściankę, ugina się i ćwierka zupełnie jak jakiś ptaszek. Obudowa skrzypi też z lewej tylnej strony, przy zawiasie. Przy poruszaniu ekranem trzeszczą z kolei same zawiasy.  

Maksymalny kąt rozwarcia ekranu to około 135 stopni. Czasem użytkownik łapie się na myśli, że przydałaby się możliwość odchylenia ekranu odrobinę bardziej.

Z racji tego, że obudowa R10 jest dość szczupła, konstruktorzy mieli problem z sensownym rozmieszczeniem złączy. Świadectwem tego jest największy chyba feler konstrukcyjny Toshiby, czyli pozycja portu ExpressCard. Sąsiaduje on z napędem optycznym i po umieszczeniu w nim karty blokowana jest możliwość wysunięcia tacki. Utrudniony jest też wówczas dostęp do znajdujących się nad tym portem wyłącznika WiFi i jednego z trzech portów USB.

Osprzęt

Tecra R10 posiada nowocześnie wyglądającą, srebrną klawiaturę podobną do tych stosowanych w poprzedniej generacji XPS-ów Della. W naszym modelu mieliśmy wersję w układzie angielskim, który jest dość niewygodny dla osoby zżytej z amerykańskim QWERTY.

Przeszkadzał nam mały lewy shift, który rodził pomyłki, a także pionowy enter, którego prawa dłoń szukała instynktownie bliżej środka klawiatury.
 
Klawiatura lekko się uginała w lewej części, ale nie przeszkadzało to prawie wcale w trakcie użytkowania.

Klawisze mają krótki, lekki skok, więc daje się pisać w miarę cicho (słychać przy tym tylko cichy chrzęst). To znaczy dawało by się, gdyby nie relatywnie głośna spacja.

Gładzik jest niewielkich rozmiarów. Brak możliwości przewijania w poziomie, a scroll pionowy potrafił przestać działać podczas jednej z sesji z niewiadomych przyczyn.

W laptopie Toshiba Tecra R10 zastosowano wyświetlacz własnej produkcji o przekątnej 14,1" i rozdzielczości 1280x800 (WXGA). Jak na notebook dla klienta biznesowego przystało, posiada on matową powierzchnię.  

Matryca Toshiby wyróżnia się wybitnie wysoka jasnością obrazu. Uśredniona luminancja maksymalna wynosi około 315 cd/m². Można wręcz powiedzieć, że podświetlenie jest zbyt mocne - na maksymalnym ustawieniu kolory są cokolwiek blade i rozmyte. Po zmianie z 8. (maksymalny) na 5. poziom regulacji jasności kolor niebieski zyskuje wyraźnie lepszą jakość, natomiast jakość czerwieni nie ulega poprawie. W każdym razie najlepiej pracuje się przy obniżonej sile podświetlenia - z reguły wybiera się poziom szósty lub siódmy. Przychodzi wówczas jednak poświęcić jakość bieli, która nie jest tak czysta jak przy poziomie maksymalnym.

Co prawda matryca daje obraz znacznej jasności, wysoką jasnością cechuje się też czerń. W efekcie kontrast jest żenująco słaby - jego proporcja to tylko 130:1.

Porównując kąty widzenia ekranu Toshiby z wyświetlaczem Della XPS 13, stwierdziliśmy, że japoński notebook ma je wyraźnie węższe.

Osiągi

Toshiba Tecra R10

Tecra R10 jest ciekawa z punktu widzenia technologicznego, gdyż zastosowano w niej platformę małoformatową (Small Form Factor) Intela. Notebook ten jest wyposażony w zminiaturyzowany chipset (27x25 mm) i procesor (22x22 mm). Jednostka SP9300 ma osiągi zbliżonej do standardowej wielkości procesorów P8400 i P8600. Jest taktowana zegarem 2,26 GHz (czyli takim jak w P8400 i wolniejszym niż w P8600), ale dysponuje 6 MB pamięci podręcznej drugiego poziomu (to dwa razy więcej niż w P8400 i P8600), przy czym jej FSB to również 1066 MHz.

Karta grafiki Nvidia Quadro NVS 150M jest układem pokrewnym GeForce 9200M GS przeznaczonego do laptopów do użytku domowego. Jest ona wolniej taktowana od NVS 160M (zegar 530 dla rdzenia i 1300 dla jednostek cieniujących) oraz obsługuje mniejsze rozdzielczości (maksymalnie 1680x1050 przez złącze cyfrowe i 1600x1200 po analogu). Toshiba zastosowała wariant ze 128 MB pamięci własnej GDDR3, dzięki której wydajność jest w miarę dobra. Relatywnie przynajmniej, bo taki Dell Stuio XPS 13 z grafiką hybrydową Nvidii notuje dwukrotnie lepsze osiągi. Zaletą tej karty jest niewielki pobór energii (maksymalnie 10 W według danych producenta).

Hałas

Wiatraczek chodzi non stop także przy standardowej pracy bez obciążenia. Czasami jednak, szczególnie kiedy komputer zmaga się z jakąś bardziej zasobochłonną aplikacją, podmuch powietrza staje się głośniejszy, przypominając wicher za oknem (no, w mikroskali).

Ten wicherek tylko nieznacznie eskaluje skalę szumu przy pracy z obciążeniem. Obserwuje się wówczas stopniowe, ciężko uchwytne zmiany prędkości obrotowej i kiedy system jest maksymalnie obciążany, można odnotować hałas o natężeniu około 37 dB. To niewiele. Stosunkowo głośny jest natomiast napęd optyczny.

Ciepło

Tecra R10 nagrzewa się odczuwalnie już w dość niskiej temperaturze pokojowej. Możliwe zatem że latem temperatury obudowy zbliżają się do wartości nieznośnych. W naszym teście odnotowaliśmy 36 stopni Celsjusza w lewym tylnym narożniku podczas pracy z laptopem umieszczonym na kolanach i wykorzystywanym do łączności z siecią. Ciepłota obudowy daje się już wówczas we znaki. Nie stanowi jednak problemu nie do zniesienia - co prawda producent ostrzega nalepką na spodzie, żeby nie kłaść działającego laptopa na podołku, to my nie widzimy przeciwwskazań. Szczególnie że ten lekki komputer można sobie ustawiać w różnych pozycjach, by zapewnić lepszy dostęp powietrza do otworów wentylacyjnych (a propos - Tecra wciąga chyba powietrze częściowo przez klawiaturę, gdyż szczeliny na spodzie są drobne i nieliczne).

W teście obciążeniowym laptop stał na biurku i umożliwiona była sprawniejsza cyrkulacja powietrza (na dodatek wiatrak pracuje nieco intensywniej). W rezultacie okazało się, że komputer wcale nie zrobił się dużo cieplejszy - maksima sięgnęły 37 stopnia na wierzchu i 36,5 stopnia na spodzie obudowy.

Głośniki

W tej dziedzinie można na Toshibie polegać. Niemniej jednak z pewnym zaskoczeniem przyjęliśmy fakt, że wbudowane głośniczki biznesowej Tecry R10 okazały się wyraźnie lepsze od tych, którymi dysponuje multimedialny Dell Studio XPS 16 (posiadający w zestawie subwoofer!). O XPS 13 nie mówiąc - w konfrontacji z nim Toshiba gra dużo lepiej na 50% głośności maksymalnej, przy 33% można już mówić o porównywalności, ale nadal to Toshiba jest górą i dopiero przy 25% Toshiby Dell ustawiony na pełny regulator jest minimalnie lepszy. 

Wydajność akumulatora

Testowaliśmy model wyposażony w dość pojemny jak na Toshibę akumulator 6-ogniwowy (5100 mAh, 55 Wh). Osiągane z jego użyciem przebiegi są dość długie, porównywalne z możliwościami laptopów konkurencji (w postaci Samsunga X460). Podawany przez producenta czas pracy (5,5 h) jest jednak nazbyt optymistyczny - maksymalnie udało się nam osiągnąć 5,2 h. W praktyce długość pracy będzie wynosić od trzech do trzech i pół godziny.

Podsumowanie

Tecra R10 to fajny laptop. Przede wszystkim ujęła nas leciutką, szczupłą obudową magnezową. Ten komputer jest zaiste filigranowy, choć posiada dość duży, 14-calowy ekran. Nasz entuzjazm ostudziły wszelako pewne niedoskonałości konstrukcji, z których najbardziej denerwująca jest skrzypiąca wsunięta tacka napędu optycznego.

Duże wrażenie (przede wszystkim jasnością obrazu) zrobiła też na nas matryca Toshiby. Jak przystało na lekki laptop często zabierany na wypady poza biuro czy wyjazdy służbowe, posiada on matową powierzchnię (a o to ostatnio coraz trudniej). Mankamenty tego wyświetlacza to blade kolory, siwa czerń i słaby kontrast.
 
Kultura pracy R10 jest zadowalająca. Laptop ten nie jest nazbyt hałaśliwy, tyle że potrafi się miejscami wyraźnie nagrzewać (posiada niezintegrowaną kartę graficzną, więc było to do przewidzenia). Mobilności Tecry nie ogranicza akumulator, który zwykle jest w stanie zasilać komputer przez grubo ponad trzy godziny.

Pomimo licznych drobnych felerów uważamy zatem, że Tecra R10 to notebook godny zainteresowania i wart wyłożenia sporych pieniędzy. Stanowi ona bowiem połączenie poręcznej obudowy z podzespołami o niezłej wydajności. Na dodatek posiada matową matrycę, która pozwala na komfortowe korzystanie z notebooka w terenie.
