Asus ZenBook Pro Duo UX581GV niezwykle przypadł mi do gustu. Chyba nie było wcześniej maszyny, którą tak bym polubił. Podoba mi się elegancka, nowoczesna forma obudowy i jej solidność. Bardzo podoba mi się ekran główny, sposób w jaki odwzorowuje barwy oraz współpraca z piórkiem. Podoba mi się pomysł drugiego ekranu i to, że udało się go faktycznie sensownie wykorzystać w pracy. Podoba mi się wreszcie wydajność i uniwersalność tej maszyny. Czy zatem jest to maszyna bez wad?

Jak zwykle na koniec została kwestia ceny. Model z i7-9750K kosztuje obecnie aż 12 tysięcy złotych, a wariant z i9-9980HK 14 tysięcy. Naszym zdaniem drugi ekran i możliwości jakie on oferuje nie usprawiedliwiają aż tak wysokiej ceny, zwłaszcza w obliczu wymienionych wad. Wystarczy wspomnieć, że Hyperbook SL504 również wyposażony w ekran OLED 4K i niemal identyczne podzespoły zapewnia wyraźnie wyższa wydajność niż Pro Duo z i7 i zaledwie o kilka procent niższą w porównaniu do modelu z i9. Przy tym jest o 25-40% tańszy. Za zaoszczędzone w ten sposób pieniądze bez problemu możemy dokupić dodatkowy ekran przenośny, tablet graficzny, dock z dodatkowymi skrótami klawiszowymi albo duży, profesjonalny monitor. Trudno jest tym samym polecić Pro Duo. Zadowolone będą z niego jedynie osoby, dla których wspomniane wady nie są istotne, cena nie gra roli i są przekonane, że mogą wykorzystać potencjał ScreenPada.

Tylko czy to jest powód do wydania na komputer kilkunastu tysięcy złotych? Nie zrozumcie mnie źle, podzespoły są topowe, ale jednak płacimy w dużej mierze za pomysł i właśnie ten drugi ekran. Tak czy inaczej, to bardzo fajny, ciekawy sprzęt i bardzo się cieszę, że mogłem przetestować jakieś futurystyczne nowości na rynku laptopów. Jestem też bardzo ciekawy w co w przyszłości ewoluuje ScreenPad Plus. Panel dotykowy zamiast klawiatury? To może być ciekawe doświadczenie, choć obawiam się, że niezbyt funkcjonalne.

The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo's 4K OLED screen is superb, the keyboard as good as any put into a laptop, the trackpad almost confusingly usable, and we'd never say no to a RTX 2060 graphics card. We're even charmed by the ScreenPad Plus, much more so than the second-screen models that Asus has slipped under some of its trackpads in other models (such as the ZenBook 14). However, start prodding at the second screen feature to see what it can really do and it will often start falling apart at the seams. Which is a shame, as when it's good it's really, genuinely usable. All in all, the enBook Pro Duo meanders between the sublime and ridiculous. And we rather love it for that.

ASUS has marketed heavily for multimedia professionals like video editors, music products and heavy office users and to some extent, gamers. For the most part, all those listed will benefit greatly from the increase in real estate if their workflow already integrates these things and their level of expertise can utilize the screen greatly. That being said, the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo isn’t ready-to-go, plug-n-play kind of solution and requires a certain level of familiarity with their workflow that would justify the increased cost of the screen, otherwise an ROG laptop would easily surpass the ZenBook Pro Duo in specs and performance.

During our brief time with the Duo series we felt like the idea has some potential but that its second screen’s placement makes it a bit awkward to use. To help somewhat combat its unique positioning Asus did angle the bottom part of the laptop, which also helps with airflow. Nonetheless, the Zenbook’s dual-screen approach is less ideal than side-by-side monitors but we do applaud Asus trying something new. For what it’s worth, we like this approach better than Asus’ standard Screenpad.
