Test Lenovo ThinkPad L512

Na najnowszą serię tańszych ThinkPadów musieliśmy czekać dłużej niż na przykład nasi zachodni sąsiedzi. Wreszcie jednak notebooki te – w tym i zrecenzowany przez nas jako pierwszy model L512 – pojawiły się w Polsce. Zapowiadane były jako następcy serii R i pewnie wielu Czytelników zastanawia się czy bliżej im do serii T czy SL. Okazało się, że L512 to laptop o mocno zubożonym wyposażeniu, ale z matową matrycą w standardzie.

Z daleka L512 wygląda jak każdy ThinkPad - jest grubawy, kwadratowy i czarny. Bliższe oględziny ujawniają jednak, że jest to jeden z tańszych modeli z biznesowej rodziny Lenovo. Nie jestem w stanie zweryfikować informacji producenta o wykonaniu w 30% z tworzyw pochodzących z recyklingu, ale od razu zauważyłem, że ani wieko nie jest już gumowane, ani plastik na pulpicie nie jest już chropowaty. Obie te powierzchnie wykonano z matowego, ale gładkiego tworzywa, które nie leżący tak dobrze w dłoni i jest trochę bardziej podatne na pozostawanie śladów po dłoniach użytkownika i przypadkowych zarysowań. Ogólnie L512 wygląda niemal identycznie jak jego starszy brat - SL510.

Zawiasy nie lśnią w tym modelu srebrem, choć wciąż sprawiają wrażenie metalowych. W takiej sytuacji jedynym elementem ożywiającym mroczne wzornictwo są umiarkowanie estetyczne diody, które zagospodarowują przestrzeń po bokach pozbawionej bloku numerycznego klawiatury. Po lewej stronie, gdy wyłączymy mikrofon i głośniki, zobaczymy dwie czerwone lampki (klawisze zmieniające natężenie dźwięku nie są podświetlane). Na przeciwległym krańcu pulpitu pobłyskują na zielono - oprócz wyłącznika systemu - kontrolki działania np. dysku twardego. Kolejne dwie diody informacyjne (baterii i uśpienia) znajdziemy w miejscu, w którym zazwyczaj zamontowany był zamek mechanizmu ryglującego. W związku z brakiem tego ostatniego, klapę przytrzymują tylko sprężyny zawiasów. W obróconym do góry nogami komputerze dekiel odstaje o około centymetr, ale w ochronie wyświetlacza przed dostawaniem się do środka przypadkowych przedmiotów pomaga profilowanie na kształt muszli małża (Clamshell).  

Zagłębienie po ryglu pomaga w otwarciu laptopa. Przeguby, które pozwalają na uzyskanie kąta otwarcia prawie 150 stopni, okazują się za słabe jak na wysokie "thinkpadowe" standardy. Objawia się to m.in. chwianiem ekranu przez jakiś czas po zmianie jego pozycji.

Dokładność spasowania elementów i solidność wykonania obudowy stoją na dobrym poziomie. Mając jednak pod ręką droższy i wyżej stojący w hierarchii model W510, byłem w stanie stwierdzić, które miejsca wymagałyby poprawek. Sztywne wieko nie ulega pod naciskiem; wygina się jednak trochę np. podczas otwierania laptopa. Z kolei jednostka zasadnicza nie skrzypi przy chwytaniu jednorącz, ale jest podatna na nacisk. Pod silnym naduszeniem palcem ustępuje nieznacznie właściwie cały pulpit: podkładka pod ręce, obszary po bokach i za klawiaturą. Dosyć wyraźnie ugina się też kratka chroniąca wylot powietrza z boku. Do tego u podstawy dochodzi wrażliwa przestrzeń pod napędem optycznym i niestabilnie wpięty akumulator. Być może skala wymienionych kłopotów nie jest alarmująca, ale widać tu skutki całkowitej rezygnacji z wewnętrznego magnezowego stelażu (rollcage).

Rozmieszczenie portów nie jest optymalne, albowiem większość z nich znajduje się w przednich partiach ścianek bocznych. Dodatkowo znajdują się one pod sporym okapem, co utrudnia wpinanie kabli. Choć konstrukcja notebooka umożliwia ulokowanie portów na tylnej ściance, znalazło się tam tylko jedno złącze USB. Zestaw portów jest raczej standardowy. Cieszy obecność DisplayPort i eSATA, dziwi natomiast lansowane we wszystkich nowych modelach Lenovo połączenie w jednym gnieździe wejścia mikrofonowego i wyjścia słuchawkowego.

Osprzęt

W tym elemencie laptopy ThinkPad są synonimem jakości. Taką opinię podtrzymują urządzenia sterujące modelu L512.

Uginająca się po bokach tylko w minimalnym stopniu klawiatura sprawia podczas pisania dużą przyjemność. Klasycznie wyglądające i wygodnie wyprofilowane klawisze pracują z odpowiednio długim skokiem i dobrą amortyzacją. Wytwarzany hałas nie jest przesadny.

Obyło się co prawda bez dodatkowego, siódmego rzędu klawiszy, ale w rozkładzie widać kilka znaków firmowych ThinkPadów. Jest to przede wszystkim zamieniony miejscami z lewym ctrl klawisz fn. Ich działanie można zamienić w BIOS-ie. Zabrakło lampki oświetlającej klawiaturę.

Poza wystarczającym komfortem manewrowania kursorem i strefami przewijania w pionie i poziomie płytka dotykowa oferuje też wystarczająco dużą powierzchnię do obsługi zaimplementowanych gestów. Bardzo przypadły mi do gustu jej klawisze - ciche i o idealnym skoku. Nie mogło zabraknąć drugiego urządzenia wskazującego. Być może podczas pisania zdarza się zahaczyć palcem o czerwony grzybek, ale jego kształt zapewnia najpłynniejsze wśród dostępnych urządzeń tego typu sterowanie. Towarzyszące mu przyciski mogą być używane również przy operowaniu gładzikiem.

Cieszy matowa powierzchnia matrycy, bo eliminuje to męczące oczy refleksy nie tylko na dworze, ale i w biurze, gdzie nie zawsze jest możliwość odpowiedniego ustawienia się względem źródła światła. Natywna rozdzielczość jednak to tylko 1366x768 pikseli w nieszczególnie nadającym się do pracy biurowej formacie 16:9.

Pomiary kolorymetrem wykazały, że kolory są odpowiednio skalibrowane, ale jakość obrazu jest przeciętna. Jasność tylko na niewielkim obszarze w centrum przekracza 200 cd/m². Powody do narzekania dają wyraźnie ograniczone kąty widzenia w pionie. W płaszczyźnie poziomej wygląda to już dużo lepiej.

Osiągi

Będący na wyposażeniu testowanej maszyny Core i5-450M to jeden z procesorów, które poszerzyły niedawno rodzinę procesorów Arrandale. Nominalne taktowanie 2,4 GHz sprawia, że może on być stawiany prawie na równi z i5-520M. Na niekorzyść nowej jednostki przemawia tylko mniejsza skala podkręcania w trybie Turbo Boost (2,66 GHz), co znajduje odzwierciedlenie w trochę niższych wynikach testów dla jednego rdzenia. Brak też bardziej zaawansowanych funkcji Intel VT-d, Intel TET i AES. O kilka procent wyższa wydajność w stosunku do i5-430M jest proporcjonalna do wyższych zegarów.

Zintegrowana z procesorem grafika GMA HD nie pozwala na uruchomienie części nowych gier, a jeśli już to w minimalnych ustawieniach. Powodów do dumy nie dają też 1933 pkt. uzyskane w 3DMarku06. Lepsze osiągi nie są jednak wymagane w przypadku L512, a bardziej przyda się pewnie sprzętowe wspomaganie odtwarzania obrazu HD i ograniczone zużycie energii.

Dysk twardy Seagate uzyskuje dobre transfery dzięki szybko wirującym (7200 obr/min) talerzom. ThinkPad L512 występuje jednak również z dyskami 5400 obr/min, które dla odmiany powinny być cichsze.

Okazało się, że kultura pracy jest bliźniacza do tej z testowanego przeze mnie jakiś czas temu modelu Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 15. Przypomnijmy więc: na luzie ciszę mąci tylko szumiący dysk twardy (identyczny jak w Edge 15), co daje 33,7 dB. Włączający się wentylator jest od razu zauważalny na pułapie 35,2 dB. Pełne obciążenie prędzej czy później da wynik 38,9 dB.

Na wyróżnienie zasługuje napęd optyczny Optiarc kręcący płytami z nienagannymi manierami i nieco ponad 36 dB.

Najwyższa zanotowana na obudowie temperatura wyniosła równe 40°C. Jednak nawet pod obciążeniem spora część obudowy nie przekracza 30°C. W nie najniższej temperaturze otoczenia korpus nieobciążonego laptopa nie przekracza ciepłoty ludzkiego ciała, ale zwłaszcza po lewej stronie jego ciepło jest odczuwalne.

Głośniki

Jak na sprzęt biurowy, jakość dźwięku należy uznać za naprawdę niezłą. Jednak jeśli porównamy L512 do bardziej dbających o ten aspekt laptopów multimedialnych, wypadnie on co najwyżej przeciętnie. Sącząca się z głośników muzyka nie niepokoi zniekształceniami, ale i pozbawiona jest części pasma, zwłaszcza tonów niskich.

Wydajność akumulatora

Cztery i pół godziny czytania tekstu czy prawie trzy godziny przeglądania Internetu osiągane dzięki akumulatorowi o pojemności 57 Wh w większości przypadków powinno wystarczyć. Gdyby okazało się inaczej, w odwodzie jest jeszcze opcjonalna bateria 9-komorowa. Przy jej zastosowaniu zwiększyłyby się również czasy: odtwarzania DVD (obecnie 2:17 h) i wydajnej pracy (teraz godzina i sześć minut).

Podsumowanie

W tym momencie pozwolę sobie na ogólną uwagę. Seria L według Lenovo ma zastąpić serię R. Jednak patrząc na L512, ma się wrażenie, że to tylko SL510 ze złączem stacji dokującej i matową matrycą w standardzie. Są to może jedne z ważniejszych cech, ale w stosunku do R500 zmieniły się zawiasy, klawiatura ma tylko 6 rzędów oraz zniknęły ważne elementy wyposażenia: lampka oświetlająca klawiaturę, zatrzask przytrzymujący matrycę, zatoka Ultrabay i wzmocnienie korpusu Rollcage.

Wciąż jednak ThinkPad L512 jest bardziej funkcjonalnym a przede wszystkim solidniejszym laptopem niż ThinkPad Edge 15. Wielu klientów ceni sobie oprogramowanie narzędziowe ThinkVantage, a pisanie po raz kolejny o świetnej klawiaturze i trackpoincie może nudzić, gdyż w tym elemencie biznesowe Lenovo właściwie zawsze prezentują najwyższą jakość. Procesor Core i5-450M z nawiązką spełnia biurowe wymagania i pozwala nawet myśleć o ambitniejszych zastosowaniach. Szkoda tylko, że ekran dostępny jest tylko w jednej, niskiej rozdzielczości.
