Test Dell Latitude E6400

Zmiana generacji laptopów to zawsze wyczekiwane z napięciem, podniosłe wydarzenie, przynajmniej dla fascynatów technologii. W przypadku debiutu nowych Latitude emocje były tym bardziej nasilone ze względu na to, iż chodzi o laptopy dla klientów instytucjonalnych, których sprzedaż idzie w miliony. Tym samym na recenzencie takiego sprzętu ciąży szczególnie ciężkie brzemię odpowiedzialności. W niniejszym artykule wyraziliśmy bez ogródek to, co sądzimy o Latitude E6400.

Obudowa

Dell Latitude E6400

Nowy Latitude wyraźnie różni się od poprzednika (D630). To po prostu czarna skrzynka. W porównaniu z nim wzornictwo starszej generacji można wręcz uznać za ciekawe. Naszym zdaniem seria D była ładniejsza, ale może wynika to z przyzwyczajenia (sprawdzona mądrość życiowa głosi, że podoba się nam to, co już znamy).

Nowy Latitude też może się podobać, szczególnie jeśli komuś konweniuje minimalizm. Jest niepozorny, nie ma właściwie cech szczególnych, ale może właśnie dlatego osiągnie kiedyś status klasyka. Na deklu mamy ulubiony ostatnio materiał konstruktorów, czyli szczotkowane aluminium pomalowane na czarno. W celu odróżnienia biznesowego Della od podobnych czarnych wyrobników (przychodzi na myśl rodzina ThinkPad) akumulatorowi i przylegającym elementom (w tym metalowym wysięgnikom zawiasów) nadano kolor srebrny.

Jak wspomniano, E6400 jest raczej kanciasty, bez zaokrągleń. Z bliska widać jednak sporo przeprofilowań i tak obudowa matrycy nosi pewne znamiona skorupy małża.

Konstrukcja jest ponoć oparta na stopach magnezu i rzeczywiście wydaje się, że w wielu (jeżeli nie we wszystkich) częściach obudowy zastosowano metal. Nawet na spodzie, który udaje tworzywo sztuczne tylko specyficzną powłoką lakierniczą. W tym względzie zatem Dell mocno wybija się ponad konkurencję.

Wracając do powłoki – E6400 jest we wszystkich częściach gładki (ale się nie błyszczy i tylko w śladowym stopniu palcuje), co przesądza o tym, że jego obudowa jest miła w dotyku.

Korpus jest bardzo sztywny, ale już wieko się delikatnie ugina (w Latitude D630 to miejsce tez nie było perfekcyjne). Zastrzeżenie mamy też do odporności obudowy ekranu na wyginanie – kiedy podnosi się pokrywę za róg, wykazuje ona niestety pewną elastyczność, a więc nie można się czuć absolutnie bezpiecznym i lepiej nie robić tego ze swadą.

Korpus jest twardy i dobrze spasowany. Pulpit, poza brakiem szarych wtrętów, wykazuje zresztą podobieństwo do starszej wersji. Podobne jest też rozwiązanie mechanizmu ryglującego, choć w nowym wydaniu jest on subtelniejszy. I w E6400 zamek nie trzyma idealnie – z lewej strony można dość mocno podważać pokrywę ekranu.

O solidności laptopa świadczy też, jak chodzą zawiasy. Te Della działają bardzo dobrze, gdyż drganie ekranu po korekcie jego ustawienia jest minimalne. Podobnie wygląda to przy wstrząsach, ale wówczas jest jeszcze mniej zauważalne.

Nie dopieszczono zapięcia akumulatora – jak zwykle u Della bateria ma luzy i może chodzić, kiedy notebook jest przenoszony.

Poprzednia generacja Latitude była ceniona m.in. za doskonałe rozdysponowanie interfejsów (możliwe dzięki zmieszczeniu akumulatora w spodzie obudowy). O E6400 można z kolei powiedzieć, że został bogato wyposażony w złącza. Znalazło się  miejsce dla czterech portów USB (tyle samo posiadał D630), przy czym są one złączone w dwie pary, więc grubsza wyczka może przesłaniać i zajmować dwa gniazda. Jeden z nich to połączenie USB i eSATA, inny zaś podaje napięcie także wtedy, gdy komputer jest wyłączony. Nowością jest złącze DisplayPort. Dell chce dotrzymać kroku Lenovo, które montuje go w najnowszych ThinkPadach, tyle że interfejs ten jest jeszcze mało rozpowszechniony. Choć standardy te są niekompatybilne, DisplayPort jest w stanie przesyłać sygnał HDMI.

Na koniec musimy pochwalić bardzo wygodny wyłącznik WiFi i diodę wskazującą.

Osprzęt

Klawiatura Della E6400 jest chwalona w większości recenzji i zachwyca się nią wielu użytkowników tego laptopa. Naszym zdaniem pochlebcy mają rację.

Pisze się na niej wybornie. Palce przeskakują z klawisza na klawisz gładko, płynnie i bezszmerowo. Co ważne, klawiatura nie hałasuje (co nie udało się Lenovo w Ideapadzie Y530). Klawisze są raczej miękkie, ale ich odpowiedź jest zdecydowanie konkretna. Skok jest krótki, ale to cecha sprzyjająca szybkiemu pisaniu.

Rozmiary klawiszy są bardzo dobre i ma to też zastosowanie do strzałek. Jedyna uwaga krytyczna odnosi się do małego i na dobitkę schowanego klawisza delete. Na szczęście wyróżniono go (jako jedyny) małą wypustką, dzięki czemu łatwo go wyczuć palcem.

Gładzik nie jest duży (mierzy 65x38 mm). Zmienił się na gorsze wraz z przyciskami (jakieś kiepskie) w porównaniu z D630.

Poprawiono natomiast trackpoint. Jest on wygodny i można nim operować precyzyjnie.

Obraz

Głównym atutem Latitude E6400 jest matryca podświetlana diodami LED. Jej przekątna to 14,1” a rozdzielczość – 1440x900 pikseli (WXGA+). Już to daje wyobrażenie o cechującej ją dobrej jakości obrazu. Jej producentem okazał się Samsung – widać ledówki tej marki są jak najbardziej  godne polecenia (co nie jest regułą w przypadku wyświetlaczy z tradycyjnym podświetleniem).

Przede wszystkim matryca ta robi wrażenie jakością bieli. Jest ona taka, jaka być powinna, a nie lekko niebieska czy żółtawa, co ma miejsce w przypadku większości matryc opartych na technologii lampowej. Pozostałe kolory również zyskały nasze uznanie. Jako że powierzchnia ekranu jest matowa, nie będą one może wydawać się użytkownikowi soczyste, ale jako że to laptop do zastosowań profesjonalnych, należy docenić względną wierność odwzorowania barw.

Znakomicie przedstawia się również sprawa jasności obrazu. Dość powiedzieć, że średni poziom luminancji przy ustawieniu jasności na maksimum wynosi prawie 280 cd/m². Doceniliśmy również imponująco równomierne podświetlenie ekranu – wskaźnik jego rozproszenia to aż 86,4%.

W ciepłych słowach nie można natomiast mówić o kątach widzenia. Matryca o podwyższonej rozdzielczości powinna, wydawałoby się, zaprezentować szersze, niż to się widuje zwykle, kąty w płaszczyźnie pionowej, ale nie tym razem. Wyświetlacz Della wypada w tym aspekcie blado.

Osiągi

Procesor Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2,53 GHz, 6 MB L2C, FSB 1066 MHz) to wydajna jednostka, która dobrze sprawdzi się w pracy z wymagającymi aplikacjami (choćby graficznymi). Wydaje się jednak, że w laptopie o mniejszych niż klasyczne gabarytach bardziej na miejscu byłaby któraś z oszczędniejszych, średnionapięciowych jednostek z grupy P, np. P8600. Biorąc jednak pod uwagę to, że w testowanym egzemplarzu zastosowano niezintegrowaną kartę graficzną, lepiej było zastosować możliwie szybki procesor.

Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M to jednak karta o słabych osiągach, odpowiednik GeForce 9300M GS. Trzeba przy tym odnotować, że w serii E6400 stosowany jest wariant z 256 MB pamięci DDR2, sporo mniej wydajny od wersji 256 MB GDDR3, która jest montowana w większych laptopach z serii Latitude E6500. Tak czy inaczej jest ona wydajniejsza od NVS 140M, nie mówiąc o NVS 135M (która była oferowana do Latitude D630). Jako że to układ z interfejsem 64-bitowym, ograniczona wydajność predysponuje ją raczej do zastosowań użytkowych, a nie do rozrywki.

Wpływ na otoczenie

Hałas

Latitude E6400 wydał się nam przesadnie hałaśliwy. Suche liczby nie mówią całej prawdy, gdyż nie oddają charakterystyki dźwięku. Z początku sprzęt wydaje się bardzo cichy, ale kiedy korzysta się z aplikacji w większym stopniu obciążających podzespoły, szczególnie pracując z laptopem na kolanach, znienacka odzywa się metaliczny wyjec, którego odgłos jest dość drażniący. Szkoda, że nie dało się lepiej wyciszyć nowego Della (trzeba przyznać, że Latitude poprzedniej generacji z kartami niezintegrowanymi były jeszcze głośniejsze; natomiast w modelach z układami zintegrowanymi emisja hałasu była znikoma).

Kiedy hałasuje maksymalnie, strumień powietrza z wentylatora jest wyczuwalny z odległości 15 cm.

Podczas testów naprzykrzał się nam też wyjątkowo głośny napęd DVD.

Nagrzewanie się obudowy nie stanowi problemu. Kiedy w pomieszczeniu, w którym znajduje się laptop, jest dość chłodno, po długim obciążeniu E6400 staje się co najwyżej letni (maksymalne temperatury wyniosły w teście 34,1°C na pulpicie i 38,7°C na spodzie).

Głośniki

Grają dosć cicho, ale przynajmniej czysto. W notebooku dla biznesu nie trzeba nic więcej.

Wydajność akumulatora

Akumulator 6-komorowy (o pojemności 56 Wh) to trochę za mało dla Latitude E6400 w prezentowanej konfiguracji. To efekt uboczny zastosowania bezkompromisowego procesora i niezintegrowanej karty grafiki. Nie pomaga nawet energooszczędna technologia diodowa zastosowana w układzie podświetlenia matrycy.

Czas w wymiarze niespełna trzech godziny podczas korzystania z sieci przez WiFi w laptopie innej firmy budziłby szacunek, ale nie w Dellu z matrycą 14” i ważącym 2,35 kg.

Wersja z ledówką, oszczędniejszym procesorem i zintegrowaną kartą grafiki bez problemu dociąga ponoć na tym samym akumulatorze do pięciu godzin.

Podsumowanie

Nie zawsze nowe znaczy od razu lepsze. Orzekliśmy mianowicie, że poprzednia generacja notebooków Latitude była jakaś taka bardziej sympatyczna. Nie znaczy to jednak, że Latitude E6400 jest laptopem nieudanym. Jest on nieco wydajniejszy od poprzednika i przede wszystkim ma o wiele lepszą matrycę (diodową WXGA+, a więc cud, miód i orzeszki).

Nowy Latitude jest może nawet lepiej wykonany, ale poprzedni wydawał się trwalszy, solidniejszy. Na tym gruncie można się jednak spierać, gdyż Delle stary i nowy wypadają bardzo podobnie, jako ze posiadają metalowe obudowy. Różne też będą zdania względem klawiatury – w naszej opinii ta nowa jest jednak sporo wygodniejsza.

Zasadnicze niedoskonałości E6400, jakie rzuciły się nam w oczy, to dość hałaśliwy wentylator oraz relatywnie krótka (szczególnie jak na Della) praca na akumulatorze.
