Test Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG

Szczerze przyznajemy, że Acer zaskoczył nas, pokazując nową serię TimelineX (5820TG, którego recenzję publikujemy, to największy z kilku modeli). Firma zaprojektowała laptop nieszablonowy, o cienkiej obudowie i wydajnych podzespołach. Wcześniej, jeśli producenci zbyt optymistycznie podchodzili do wkładania mocnych komponentów do relatywnie niewielkich obudów, zazwyczaj kończyło się to nieciekawie. Laptop Acera przeszedł jednak testy pomyślnie, choć przy obciążeniu robi się gorący.

Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG

Obudowa

Obudowa 5820TG przypomina model 5810T i różni się zasadniczo od starszych multimedialnych laptopów Acera. Przede wszystkim obie części składowe notebooka - obudowa ekranu i jednostka zasadnicza - są bardzo cienkie. Zdecydowano się na takę a nie inną konstrukcję, by zbić wagę laptopa i tym samym zwiększyć jego mobilność. Wraz z dużym akumulatorem model 5820TG waży 2,4 kg (jego zasilacz też jest spory i waży z przewodami ponad pół kilograma). Szczupłe kształty sprawiają też oczywiście, że w stanie złożonym TimelineX zajmuje mniej miejsca niż zwykły notebook.

To, że obudowa jest tak cienka, może budzić uzasadnione obawy, że konstrukcja okaże się delikatna. Podobnie jak i inne płaskie laptopy, TimelineX nie wydaje się być laptopem wybitnie odpornym i wytrzymałym. Kiedy się zmienia chwyt oburącz, tudzież trzyma ten komputer jedną ręką, słychać niepokojące, głośne i dość długie skrzypienie. Nie pomaga tu zastosowanie aluminium - aluminiowy jest tylko jeden z elementów wieka, a srebrne tworzywo na pulpicie roboczym jest tylko stylizowane na aluminium.

To właśnie obudowa ekranu najbardziej nam się podobała pod względem sztywności i potencjalnej wytrzymałości. Prowadzony jedną ręką za jeden z górnych rogów ekran wygina się w niewielkim stopniu. Nie występują więc duże naprężenia materiału i można być raczej spokojnym o trwałość tego elementu. Jak na tak cienki wyświetlacz, jest bardzo dobrze. Praca zawiasów przedstawia się właściwie idealnie.

Aspire 5820TG nie posiada zamknięcia na zatrzask, ale w tak cienkim laptopie to oczywiste.

Mniej zadowolonym można być z solidności przedniej części platformy roboczej - przy oparciu dłoni na frontowej partii pulpitu roboczego do pisania na klawiaturze (przy czym laptop spoczywa na twardym podłożu) tworzywo wyraźnie się ugina. Pozytywne jest jednak to, że z obudowy nie dochodzi wówczas chrzęszczenie – pod tym względem jest lepiej niż w modelu Aspire 5740G.

Uciążliwe dla użytkownika felery konstrukcyjne to plamy zostające po palcach na powierzchni wieka oraz fakt, że ramka ekranu jest połyskliwa.

Naciskanie ramki ekranu powoduje zaburzenia na matrycy (z lewej strony są one znacznie silniejsze niż z prawej).

Rozmieszczenie portów peryferyjnych najwidoczniej nie było priorytetem dla konstruktorów tego cienkiego laptopa. Jest ono niekorzystne, gdyż złącza trafiły właściwie tylko na ścianki boczne. Trzy z czterech portów USB znajdują się przy przednim prawym rogu. Poza tym laptop Acera nie posiada gniazda ExpressCard i portu eSATA.

Osprzęt

TimelineX 5820T otrzymał klawiaturę podobną do tej znanej z modelu Aspire 5740G. Jest ona nieco lepsza ze względu na korzystniejsze amortyzowanie klawiszy i ich nieco dłuższy, bardziej wyczuwalny skok.
 
Klawiatura jest szeroka, rozpościera się na całą szerokość platformy roboczej. Dzięki temu składa się z bloku głównego i osobnego numerycznego, tak jak w klawiaturze komputera stacjonarnego. Blok numeryczny też jest szeroki, ma duże klawisze, stanowi spójną, niezaburzoną całość.

Cechą charakterystyczną jest to, że klawisze w dolnym rzędzie są dłuższe od reszty, a te w górnym są wyraźnie mniejsze od pozostałych. Dyskomfort powodują jednak przede wszystkim wyjątkowo małe klawisze kierunkowe - ten problem jest znany wielu użytkownikom najnowszych laptopów Acera.

Choć klawiatura nie jest atutem modelu 5820TG, to mimo pewnych niedogodności można na niej pracować raczej bez przeszkód i pisać teksty dość szybko. Klawiatura ugina się tylko przy rozmyślnym przyduszaniu klawiszy. Kiedy pisze się normalnie czy nawet mocno stuka w klawisze, nie obserwuje się niekorzystnego efektu. Klawisze mają skłonność do przechylania się na różne strony, ale nie w takim stopniu, żeby było to uciążliwe. Pisanie nie może być za to ciche, gdyż słychać przy nim chrzęszczenie klawiszy.

Gładzik Synaptics jest bardzo estetyczny. Prosty i elegancki; pasuje do wizerunku laptopa. Do operowania nim trzeba mieć suchy palec - wówczas działa zadowalająco. Kiedy opuszka palca jest wilgotna, robi się problem, gdyż powierzchnia płytki dotykowej hamuje ruchy palca i korzystanie z tego urządzenia wskazującego staje się mordęgą.

Belka z przyciskami nie jest idealna, ale działa zadowalająco dobrze. Przyciski mają głośny klik, ale nie są tak toporne jak w niektórych innych notebookach Acera, np. 5740G.

Chociaż TimelineX jest laptopem nowoczesnym, nie przewidziano w nim panelu dotykowego do sterowania multimediami. Widocznie konstruktorzy Acera uznali, że nie jest to gadżet niezbędny i jego funkcje lepiej wykonują komendy z klawiatury.

Testowany Aspire 5820TG posiada matrycę 15,6" Samsunga. Jest ona lustrzana, jak przystało na „domową” serię Aspire (odpowiednikiem 5820TG z matrycą matową ma być TravelMate 8572).

Co prawda pomiary luminancji tego nie potwierdziły, to wydawało nam się, że obraz na ekranie Acera jest jasny (wieczorem „daje po oczach” i trzeba obniżać siłę podświetlenia).

Nie można narzekać na jakość obrazu. Pomimo niskiej rozdzielczości natywnej (1366x768) obraz jest zadowalająco ostry i wyraźny. Na ustawieniach fabrycznych kolory są nieco blade, ale można to regulować. Biel jest czysta, bardzo dobrej jakości, natomiast czerń tradycyjnie zbyt jasna.  
 
Zastrzeżenia można mieć kątów widzenia, szczególnie w pionie (te w poziomie są przyzwoite). Są one wąskie jak to w laptopie, co najwyżej minimalnie lepsze od standardu.  

Podsumowując – wyświetlacz nie jest słabym punktem omawianego laptopa.

Osiągi

Procesor Core i5-430M należy do najpopularniejszych jednostek Intela najnowszej generacji. Jest on nieco wolniejszy od i5-520M nie tylko za sprawą niższego taktowania nominalnego (2,26 a nie 2,4 GHz) ale też dlatego, że funkcja Turbo Boost zwiększa jego szybkość (poprzez zmianę wartości mnożnika) maksymalnie tylko o dwa stopnie (do 2,53 GHz), a nie o cztery jak w przypadku i5-520M. Procesor ten należy uznać za wystarczający dla gracza i amatora, a do zastosowań profesjonalnych lepiej wybierać szybsze jednostki i5. Co by jednak nie mówić, obecność CPU o takiej wydajności w płaskim lekkim laptopie była niedawno nie do pomyślenia.

Poza szybkim procesorem Aspire 5820TG dysponuje jeszcze dość wydajną kartą grafiki ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650, spotykaną w licznych laptopach zaliczanych do multimedialnych.

Częstotliwość taktowania rdzenia wynosi dla tego modelu 550 MHz (to najczęściej spotykana wartość, przy czym wg specyfikacji ATI może się mieścić w granicach 450-650 MHz).
 
ATI MR HD 5650 w Aspire 5820TG osiąga analogiczną wydajność jak w innych laptopach Acera z tym układem. Może zatem posłużyć do najnowszych gier, którym będzie w stanie podołać przeważnie na co najmniej średnich ustawieniach.
 
W Acerze istnieje możliwość przełączania grafiki na rdzeń zintegrowany z procesorem w celu oszczędzania energii. Technologia Switchable Graphics działa dobrze i nie przysparza użytkownikowi poważniejszych problemów. Nie trzeba uruchamiania komputera ponownie, a jedynie odczekać kilka sekund, by zmiana aktywnego modułu graficznego doszła do skutku.

Kartę grafiki można zmieniać zarówno na akumulatorze, jak i na zasilaniu sieciowym (z podpiętą baterią i bez baterii). Na zasilaczu nie działa Acer Power Smart On (czyli w rzeczywistości wyłączanie napędu optycznego).

Wpływ na otoczenie

Hałas

Początkowo sądziliśmy, że Aspire 5820TG cechuje się bardzo dobrą kulturą pracy. Jest tak faktycznie, gdyż laptop ten nie jest bardzo głośny pod obciążeniem a w stanie spoczynku przy wyłączonej karcie grafiki ATI potrafi być cichy.
 
Przy bezczynności/użytkowaniu bez obciążenia (na kablu, tryb oszczędny, aktywny układ zintegrowany Intela) bardziej słychać szum dysku niż wentylator. Co prawda oba mogą się wyłączyć, ale absolutnej ciszy się wówczas nie uzyska - w 5820TG (podobnie jak w wielu innych notebookach opartych na najnowszej platformie Intela) też występuje piszczenie. Szum emitowany przez laptop w takim trybie nie będzie irytujący nawet w bardzo cichym miejscu. Kiedy z kolei aktywowana jest karta ATI, a komputer służy np. do korzystania z internetu, szum wytwarzany przez układ chłodzenia przeszkadza w komfortowym użytkowaniu sprzętu.

Piszczenie ma dość niską tonację, więc nie jest większym problemem, o ile jest zagłuszane przez szum wentylatora. Jeżeli ten ostatni nie pracuje, potrafi być ono dotkliwym utrapieniem. Jeszcze gorsze jest nieprzyjemne klikanie parkującej głowicy dysku twardego.

Maksymalne natężenie hałasu przy ekstremalnym obciążeniu okazało się zaskakująco niskie jak na płaski laptop o mocnych podzespołach – 38,8 dB. Wytwarzany szum jest wówczas intensywny, ale nie stanowi większego problemu.

Ciepło

Zastosowanie wydajnych podzespołów w laptopie o szczupłej obudowie musiało się odbić negatywnie na temperaturach Acera 5820TG.
 
Kiedy karta graficzna ATI jest wyłączona, laptop ten zachowuje się należycie. Podczas korzystania z internetu w trybie oszczędnym maksymalne wartości na spodzie i wierzchu jednostki zasadniczej sięgają do 31-32°C. W sytuacji zaś obciążania tylko procesora i dysku twardego maksima wynoszą już 52°C na spodzie i 38,5°C w lewej części pulpitu roboczego.

Aktywowanie wydzielonej karty grafiki i obciążanie podzespołów powoduje z kolei poważne nagrzewanie się obudowy Acera. Po godzinnej sesji z grą o dużych wymaganiach sprzętowych na spodzie zmierzyliśmy 58°C a w lewej części klawiatury – prawie 43°C. Po godzinnym ekstremalnym obciążeniu (FurMark i Prime95) średnie maksima po stronie wierzchniej były aż o 6,4°C wyższe niż w teście z grą (37,7°C), a na spodzie – o 4,2°C wyższe (w teście z grą - 38,6°C). Najwyższe wskazania wyniosły aż 49,4 i 63°C (dane z tego testu uwzględniliśmy na poniższym diagramie).  
 
Maksymalne temperatury podzespołów zanotowane podczas testów z przy użyciu benchmarku Crysis to 84°C dla CPU i 83°C w przypadku GPU. W teście z wykorzystaniem FurMarka i Prime95 uzyskaliśmy temperatury 93°C (CPU) i 87°C (GPU).

Głośniki

Głośniki nie wyróżniają się niczym szczególny. Ot, standardowe piszczałki, jakie spotyka się w laptopach. Stanowczo nie można być zadowolonym z maksymalnej siły głosu, która jest bardzo słaba. Pocieszające jest natomiast to, że uzyskiwany z głośników dźwięk jest czysty, pozbawiony zakłóceń i charczenia.

Wydajność akumulatora

Acer postawił sobie za punkt honoru, by w nowej generacji notebooków Timeline nie pogorszyć przebiegów na akumulatorze mimo zastosowania dużo wydajniejszych podzespołów niż w pierwszych modelach o tym oznaczeniu. Aspire 5810T miał baterię o pojemności 62 Wh; w 5820TG ma ona pojemność 66 Wh.

Przebiegi są bardzo dobre dzięki możliwości wyłączenia wydzielonej karty grafiki ATI. Wówczas omawiany laptop może pracować przez grubo ponad 8 h. To jednak przy braku obciążenia i maksymalnym oszczędzaniu energii. Realne czasy pracy to 5-6 h.
 
Jeżeli użytkownik nie zdecyduje się na wyłączenie karty graficznej ATI, może liczyć na uzyskiwanie przebiegów w wymiarze 2,5-4 h (przy dużym obciążeniu laptop będzie pracował dużo krócej).

W przypadku Aspire 5820TG mamy do czynienia z obaleniem kolejnego mitu. Wcześniej upadł mit mówiący, że laptopy nie nadają się do gier. Te przeznaczone  do rozrywki zazwyczaj jednak zużywały migiem energię czerpaną z akumulatora, więc były przenośne praktycznie tylko z nazwy. Ten laptop Acera temu przeczy, gdyż może działać nieprzerwanie kilka godzin a nawet – o ile użytkownik będzie oszczędzał energię – przez cały dzień roboczy. Możliwe, że wkrótce powstanie więcej notebooków naśladujących koncepcję komputera, który podoła i nowszym grom (w zadowalający sposób), i wymogowi długiej pracy na baterii. 

Acerowi wyszedł laptop, który nie jest może cudem techniki, ale jego wady nie są w stanie przesłonić zasadniczych zalet. Do mankamentów trzeba zaliczyć brudzące się łatwo i trwale wieko, niekorzystne rozmieszczenie portów komunikacyjnych, gorącą miejscami obudowę przy obciążeniu, piszczenie cewek, klikanie dysku twardego a także błyszczące matrycę i jej ramkę. Zalety to poza wydajnością i przebiegami na akumulatorze niewielka emisja hałasu i niskie temperatury podczas pracy bez obciążenia (na miarę laptopa biurowego, którym staje się po odłączeniu niezależnej karty graficznej)
