Test Toshiba Tecra M11-106

Marka Tecra nie jest może tak znana jak marka ThinkPad, ale kilkanaście lat produkowania tych laptopów zrobiło swoje. Rozpoznawalność, jaką cieszy się wśród klientów korporacyjnych, zapewnia popularność kolejnym modelom oznaczonym tą nazwą. Przetestowana wersja Tecry M11 była wyposażona w matowy, 14-calowy wyświetlacz, procesor Core i5-520M i kartę grafiki Nvidia Quadro NVS 2100M.

Toshiba Tecra M11-106

Toshiba Tecra M11 już choćby swoim wyglądem zdradza biznesowe przeznaczenie. Jej ciężka, niezbyt zgrabna sylwetka nie zadowoli miłośników wzorniczej finezji, a czarne tworzywo, z którego wykonana jest obudowa, nie ma zbyt zachęcającej faktury. Tłoczony na powierzchni klapy i pulpitu roboczego wzór nie jest w stanie tego zmienić. Nie można jednak odmówić tym materiałom wysokiej odporności na zabrudzenia. Laptop w ogóle nie rzucałby się w oczy, gdyby nie błyszczące logo producenta na klapie.

Wrażenie ciężkości potwierdza waga, która wskazuje ponad 2,4 kg, co stawia Tecrę wśród cięższych "czternastek". Taką samą masę ma już trochę laptopów w rozmiarze 15,6". M11 broni się jednak jakością wykonania i solidnością. Dobrze spasowane plastiki właściwie nie skrzypią, a jedynym uginającym się obszarem jest środek wieka. Ugięcie to nie jest nazbyt mocne i nie powoduje zmian w wyświetlanym obrazie. Poza tym niewielki luz odnotować można w osadzeniu akumulatora. Widać jednak, że Toshiba to sztywna i twarda sztuka, która nie odmówi posłuszeństwa podczas częstego przenoszenia z jednego spotkania biznesowego na drugie. Świetną stabilność ma spód laptopa. Znalazły się na nim trzy klapki serwisowe, ale zabrakło miejsca dla wlotu powietrza do wentylacji.

Bardzo dobrze dobrana jest charakterystyka pracy zawiasów, pozwalających na całkowicie płaskie ułożenie ekranu (kąt powyżej 180 stopni). Pod nieobecność zatrzasku to one mocno trzymają klapę zamkniętego laptopa oraz tłumią jej drgania w pozycji roboczej. Udało się to pogodzić z możliwością otwarcia komputera z pomocą tylko jednej ręki, choć ma to pewnie związek również z masywnością jednostki zasadniczej.

Tecra M11 została obdarzona zestawem niezbędnych portów, w tym złączem stacji dokującej u podstawy. Przypadło mi do gustu rozmieszczenie gniazd typu LAN, zasilanie i VGA na rufie laptopa. Warto zwrócić uwagę na możliwość przykręcenia wtyczki D-sub, co zwiększa pewność połączenia z projektorem. Każde z trzech USB znalazło się na innej ściance. Pewnym mankamentem jest DisplayPort w wersji mini. Umieszczony obok niego czytnik kart inteligentnych wpisuje się w wyposażenie z zakresu bezpieczeństwa, które obejmuje również moduł TPM, czujnik wstrząsów dysku twardego i czytnik linii papilarnych.

Osprzęt

Upór, z jakim Toshiba stosuje autorskie rozwiązania w rozmieszczeniu klawiszy, jest godny podziwu. Do większości z nich, np. krótkiego lewego klawisza shift, można się przyzwyczaić. Wyjątkiem jest tu za wąski, pionowy enter. Co ciekawe, brak wydzielonego bloku numerycznego wiąże się z bonusem w postaci spacji o normalnej długości (ponad 9 centymetrów).

Klawiatura jest bardzo sztywna i pisze się na niej wygodnie. Sążnisty, ale i dobrze wyczuwalny skok daje odpowiednią kontrolę nad wprowadzanym tekstem. Grube klawisze wyglądają trochę staroświecko, ale ten kształt i pewne mocowanie płytek mają pozytywny wpływ na komfort pisania. Odpornej na zachlapanie klawiatury Tecry nie da się zaliczyć do urządzeń cichych.

Gładzik Alps ma odpowiednią wielkość i przyjemną w dotyku powierzchnię. Na standardowych ustawieniach powody do narzekania daje jednak czułość jego działania. Płytka dotykowa nie idzie z duchem czasu i w dosyć bogatym menu jej opcji zabrakło możliwości skonfigurowania gestów, albowiem nie są obsługiwane. Błyszczące klawisze nie tylko mają niepasujące do otaczającej czerni, błyszczące wykończenie, ale i twardy, krótki i głośny klik.

Lepiej wypadają klawisze manipulatora Accu Point, jednak samo urządzenie jest równie staromodne jak klawiatura i gładzik. Niebieski pumeksik na jego końcówce przypomina laptopy konkurencji sprzed wielu lat i pomimo niezłej kontroli nad kursorem, korzystanie z niego nie jest nazbyt przyjemne. Grzybek ten nie jest kompatybilny z rozwiązaniami innych producentów, więc nie wchodzi w grę praktykowana przez niektórych użytkowników podmiana nakładek.

Nastawienie na ułatwienie prowadzenia prezentacji widać w ułożonych koło włącznika komputera klawiszach multimedialnych. Dają możliwość regulacji głośności, zarządzania wyświetlaniem obrazu i energooszczędnym trybem pracy Toshiba eco. Pomocny będzie też długi kabel zasilacza, który sięgnie nawet odległych gniazdek.

Panoramiczny ekran Toshiby o rozmiarze 14” i proporcjach 16:9, ma rozdzielczość 1366x768 pikseli. Jak przystało na komputer biznesowy, jego powierzchnia jest matowa. Sprawia to, że wyświetlane przez matrycę treści są czytelne niezależnie od tego, czy przeszkadzać próbują zewnętrzne źródła światła. Przyzwoite rozświetlenie (z troszkę ciemniejszym górnym prawym rogiem) łączy się z solidną luminancją, która wynosi średnio prawie 200 cd/m2.

Całkiem niezłe odwzorowanie bieli idzie niestety w parze z raczej siwawą czernią i, co się z tym wiąże, ograniczonym kontrastem. Na standardowych ustawieniach kolory sprawiają wrażenie raczej zimnych. W przeciętne parametry matrycy wpisują się również kąty widzenia, dosyć ograniczone zwłaszcza w pionie.

Osiągi

Tecra M11-106 została wyposażona w dobrze już znany procesor Intel Core i5-520M. Jest to najtańszy sposób na jednostkę centralną z pełnym zestawem zaawansowanych funkcji Intela, w tym np. szyfrowaniem AES. Częstotliwość taktowania wynosząca od nominalnych 2,4 GHz do 2,93 GHz w trybie Turbo Boost i 3 MB pamięci podręcznej dają w efekcie jedną z wydajniejszych jednostek z rodziny Arrandale.

To wszystko w połączeniu z aż 8 GB pamięci operacyjnej DDR3 pozwala śmiało myśleć o zajmowaniu się zadaniami bardziej ambitnymi, niż typowa praca biurowa.

Karta graficzna Nvidia Quadro NVS 2100M jest wprawdzie mocniejsza i bardziej funkcjonalna od rozwiązań zintegrowanych, ale należy do niższej klasy wydajnościowej. Od NVS 3100M różni się przede wszystkim niższym taktowaniem, które wynosi 535/790 MHz (rdzeń/pamięć). Przy 64–bitowej szynie i nie najwyższej wydajności, 512 MB własnej pamięci DDR3 to aż nadto.

Pazur pokazał dysk twardy Hitachi, osiągając w HD Tune średni transfer 86 MB/s i  przyzwoity czas dostępu (16,6 ms).

Można by chcieć, by M11-106 był cichszym laptopem, ale pewnie odbiłoby się to na wydajności podzespołów takich jak HDD czy grafika. Prawie stale pracujący wentylator i pochwalony przeze mnie dysk twardy generują szumy o wartości przekraczającej 34 dB. Wiele laptopów podczas codziennego użytkowania potrafi być wyraźnie cichszymi. Poziom hałasu osiągany przez Toshibę będzie jednak zwracał uwagę tylko w dobrze wyciszonym otoczeniu (np. w nocy), w ciągu dnia ginąc wśród innych odgłosów.

Przy obciążeniu systemu chłodzenie stara się zachować wstrzemięźliwie i miernik wskazuje wartości w przedziale 37,5–38,2 dB. Zmuszony do walki o przetrwanie w teście maksymalnego obciążenia laptop zahuczał z siłą 43,1 dB.

Ciepło

Korzystanie z Internetu, edytora tekstu i inne niewymagające zajęcia nie są w stanie doprowadzić do rozgrzania obudowy Tecry do temperatur uciążliwych dla użytkownika. Maksymalnie 34,2°C na spodzie to dowód na możliwość korzystania z laptopa umiejscowionego na kolanach. W środku tylko czujniki karty graficznej wskazują wyraźnie powyżej 40°C.

Najbardziej wymagający sprawdzian, czyli godzinne wygrzewanie komputera, ukazuje, że chłodzenie niezupełnie radzi sobie z odprowadzaniem nadmiaru ciepła. Głośno pracujący wiatraczek i widoczne za maskownicą radiatory (nie wykonane z miedzi) pozwalają na rozgrzanie obszaru po lewej stronie pulpitu do ponad 45°C, a odpowiadająca mu powierzchnia na spodzie obudowy wręcz parzy (osiągnąwszy 52,5°C). Jest to niepokojące zachowanie i gorąca karta graficzna każe zastanowić się nad wyborem rozwiązania zintegrowanego, które przy okazji  powinno wpłynąć na ograniczenie hałasu.

Z drugiej jednak strony Tecra M11 będzie pewnie używana w sposób obciążający głównie procesor i tylko w niewielkim stopniu grafikę (np. okazjonalny relaks przy grach), a w takich warunkach jest i ciszej, i chłodniej – temperatury podzespołów oscylują w granicach 80°C.

Głośniki

Zdążyłem się już przyzwyczaić do tego, że w laptopach biznesowych producenci nie przykładają się do projektu nagłośnienia. Ale zlokalizowane na jej przedniej ściance głośniczki Toshiby najlepiej nadadzą się do odtwarzania dźwięków systemowych. Nie najwyższe natężenie dźwięku trzeba jeszcze ograniczyć, gdyż podczas odtwarzania muzyki potrafią pojawić się pobrzękiwania. Głos interlokutora przy prowadzeniu rozmowy przez komunikator będzie wyraźny, ale ulubione utwory muzyczne ujawnią kiepską dynamikę i szczegółowość granej muzyki.

Wydajność akumulatora

Bateria 6–komorowa o standardowej pojemności 55 Wh daje przewidywalne, ale i satysfakcjonujące czasy pracy.  Testy programu Battery Eater mierzące minimalne i maksymalne przebiegi, dały wyniki od godziny i 11 minut do prawie pięciu godzin (4:53). Dwie i pół godziny to aż nadto na seans filmowy z DVD, a pomiar wykonany podczas korzystania z sieci bezprzewodowej wyniósł 3 h i 22 minuty.

Podsumowanie

Warto od czasu do czasu przypomnieć, że w segmencie biznesowym swoje oferty prezentują również producenci nie należący do trójcy HP - Dell - Lenovo. W modelu Tecra, poza długą gwarancją, dobrze wykonaną obudową i matową matrycą, Toshiba oferuje rozwiązania, do których przyzwyczaili się profesjonaliści. Oprócz portu dokowania jest to np. szereg technologii podnoszących bezpieczeństwo. Okazuje się też, że dobrze wykonana klawiatura, pomimo trochę dziwacznego rozlokowania klawiszy, zapewnia dobry komfort pracy.
