Test Samsung X420

O laptopach CULV Samsunga jest cicho (producent nie prowadzi tak intensywnej akcji promocyjnej jak Asus), ale warto zwrócić na nie uwagę, gdyż są one sprzedawane po atrakcyjnych cenach. Wyposażony w dwurdzeniowy procesor SU4100 i działający na zasilaniu z akumulatora do 9 godzin Samsung X420 jest opcją wartą rozważenia, jeżeli poszukiwany laptop ma posiadać matrycę 14”, nie musi być wyposażony w napęd optyczny i nie zależy nam na wydajności oferowanej przez Asusa UL80VT.

Kiedy zamknięty notebook ogląda się pod światło, widać metaliczne drobinki mieniące się. Nie każdemu odpowiada taka stylistyka, ale Samsung stosuje ją często.  
 
Model X420 jest błyszczący na zewnątrz, ma metaliczną obwódkę obudowy i na całe szczęście matowy pulpit roboczy. Dzięki temu w miejscach, gdzie go się najczęściej dotyka podczas pracy nie brudzi się, w przeciwieństwie do wielu innych laptopów (w tym marki Samsung).
 
Tworzywo na pulpicie jest nie tylko matowe ale i przyjemne w dotyku, choć nieco szorstkie. Odnosi się wrażenie, że nie jest to materiał kiepskiego sortu.  
 
X420 jest solidnie wykonany, o czym można się przekonać, podnosząc ten laptop – nic wówczas nie trzeszczy, ani się nie ugina. Nie ma elementu, który by się telepał. Pokrywa ekranu też jest solidna i powinna dobrze chronić matrycę. Ekran trzyma się na zawiasach stabilnie i tylko nieznacznie dygocze w konsekwencji poruszania pokrywą. Brak zatrzasków ryglujących klapę, ale do jej podniesienia trzeba zazwyczaj obu rąk, gdyż zawiasy stawiają duży opór.
 
Jak przystało na laptop typu CULV, Samsung X420 jest dość lekki. Notebook z akumulatorem waży niespełna 1,8 kg, a w komplecie z zasilaczem - niewiele ponad 2 kg.
 
Podobnie jak większy X520 model X420 nie posiada wbudowanego napędu optycznego. Wszystkie złącza są umieszczone na ściankach bocznych. Te z prawej strony są przesunięte ku tyłowi, co daje możliwość swobodnego operowania myszką po podłączeniu peryferiów do mieszczących się tam portów USB.

Osprzęt

Klawiatura to jeden z największych mankamentów Samsunga X420. Mówiąc wprost, jest tandetna. Z pozoru nie wygląda źle, gdyż profile w spodniej części płytek nawiązują do nowoczesnej klawiatury typu wyspowego. Rozmiary klawiszy są zaś zadowalające.
 
Niestety, wrażenia towarzyszące pisaniu są nieciekawe. Przy naciskaniu można obserwować uginanie się sąsiednich płytek, a klawisze dają słabą odpowiedź, skutkiem czego nie wiadomo, czy wybrany klawisz został ostatecznie wciśnięty. Recenzentowi nie podobał się też odgłos wydawany przez klawisze.

Z drugiej strony to sympatyczne, że Samsung znalazł miejsce dla drugiego klawisza Fn z prawej strony, co ułatwia regulowanie jasności obrazu czy siły dźwięku przy współudziale sąsiednich klawiszy kierunkowych.
 
Tabliczka dotykowa jest dostatecznie duża. Jej powierzchnia jest miła w dotyku i umożliwia szybkie ruchy palca sterującego kursorem. Obsługuje ona dotyk wielopunktowy, a więc pozwala na powiększenie dokumentu dwoma palcami czy jego przewinięcie poprzez ruch okrężny.

Obraz

Samsung X420 posiada 14-calowy wyświetlacz LCD z podświetleniem LED (w laptopie mającym jak najdłużej wytrzymać na zasilaniu z akumulatora to oczywisty wybór). Jego rozdzielczość to 1366x768, a więc jest to matryca formatu 16:9. W przypadku laptopa służącego przede wszystkim do internetu ma on tę wadę, że trzeba częściej przewijać treści stron internetowych czy przeglądanych dokumentów. W laptopie podczas oglądania filmów występują natomiast mniejsze czarne pasy (lub w ogóle ich brak) u góry i dołu ekranu.  

Na swojej witrynie internetowej Samsung zapewnia, że jasność obrazu wynosi 300 cd/m², ale nie potwierdził tego pomiar, gdzie uzyskano maksymalną wartość 208 cd/m² (a średnia wyników maksymalnych dla całej matrycy to tylko 175 cd/m²). Ekran nie był równomiernie podświetlony.

Matryca ma powłokę błyszczącą (glare), co czyni obraz słabo czytelnym podczas użytkowania laptopa poza pomieszczeniem i w mocnym świetle dziennym ze względu na odbijające się w ekranie otoczenie. Jest to problem szczególnie dotkliwy w przypadku notebooka tak mobilnego jak Samsung X420.

Kąty widzenia również pozostawiają sporo do życzenia. Odchylenie w niewielkim stopniu do tyłu czy przyciągnięcie do siebie powoduje znaczne nieprawidłowe zmiany widocznych dla użytkownika kolorów. Z kolei kąty w zakresie poziomym okazały się bardzo dobre i pozwalają na oglądanie przedstawianych na ekranie treści wielu osobom na raz.

Zastosowany w testowanym X420 procesor Intel Pentium SU4100 (1,3 GHz) należy do tych jednostek klasy CULV, które można polecać ze spokojnym sumieniem. Od innego niskonapięciowego dwurdzeniowca, SU7300, różni się on rozmiarem pamięci podręcznej L2 Cache a także brakiem sprzętowego wsparcia wirtualizacji.

Cinebench R10 wykazuje, jaką korzyścią jest posiadanie drugiego rdzenia, gdyż weryfikuje moc obliczeniową jednego rdzenia jak i obu pracujących razem. Wynik w teście Single CPU to 1405 pkt., natomiast w Multi - 2665 pkt., czyli 1,9x więcej. 

Do sprawdzenia możliwości laptopa w sferze rozrywki wybrano popularną, nie posiadającą specjalnych wymagań sprzętowych grę World of Warcraft. Efekt był taki, że można się zmagać w krainie Azeroth, z tym że uprzednio należy zmienić wszystkie ustawienia na najniższe. W takich warunkach można uzyskać średnio 29 kl/s, a wtedy WoW jest w miarę grywalny. Kiedy jednak na ekranie pokazuje się więcej graczy i walka toczy się z potężnymi przeciwnikami, obraz zaczyna mocno skakać. W razie wyboru wyższych ustawień grafiki (np. zwiększenia rozdzielczości do 1024x768 czy bardziej szczegółowo przedstawianych postaci), gra jest praktycznie niegrywalna. Uzyskuje się 14 kl/s na średnich ustawieniach i 4 kl/s przy ustawieniach najwyższych.

Jeżeli chodzi o temperatury, na spodzie obudowy X420 występują obszary silnie się nagrzewające szczególnie w części, za którą znajduje się procesor. Podczas pracy z dużym obciążeniem podstawa komputera może się rozgrzać do 45°C, co jest już wysoką wartością. 

Jeżeli jednak użytkownik Samsunga nie będzie obciążał podzespołów, a wykorzystywał notebook do przeglądania internetu (czyli w funkcji netbooka), temperatura maksymalna na spodzie będzie dużo niższa - w teście wyniosła zaledwie 31,8°C. Maksima dla górnej części platformy roboczej to 30,7°C przy lekkiej pracy i 36,7°C przy pełnym wykorzystaniu mocy obliczeniowych. Można zatem spokojnie używać X420, trzymając laptop na kolanach, o ile obciążenie systemu nie będzie zbyt duże.

Głośniczki są przeciętne, pomimo zastosowania przez producenta technologii SRS. Wytwarzają dźwięk o znikomej głębi. Przeważają w nim tony wysokie. Dźwięk o takiej jakości nada się co najwyżej do okazjonalnego oglądania filmików w sieci. Maksymalna siła głosu jest nie najgorsza. Korzystne jest również to, że głośniki umieszczono w sensownym miejscu, za klawiaturą.

W tym aspekcie laptop Samsunga spisuje się bardzo dobrze, choć nie osiąga na swoim 6-komorowym akumulatorze (5900 mAh, 66 Wh) przebiegów równie długich co wiele Asusów z serii UL (które posiadają baterie o większej pojemności). Przy zakupie należy uważnie przejrzeć specyfikację notebooka, gdyż można trafić (przy zakupie notebooka za granicą lub sprowadzonego) na wersję z akumulatorem o pojemności 48,4 Wh.

Maksymalny czas osiągnięty w teście wyniósł ponad 9 godzin. Przeglądanie internetu przy pomocy łącza WLAN było możliwe przez ponad 5 godzin.

Podsumowanie

Samsunga X420 należy zaliczyć do najciekawszych notebooków typu CULV dostępnych na naszym rynku. Przede wszystkim dlatego, że choć jego cena jest przystępna, to oferowany jest on z procesorem dwurdzeniowym (Pentium SU4100 nie jest znacząco słabszy od chwalonego C2D SU7300) i pojemnym akumulatorem, który pozwala na korzystanie z laptopa przez 5 godzin i więcej.  
 
Główne mankamenty tego modelu to lustrzana matryca i klawiatura, na której nie pisze się najlepiej. Dla części potencjalnych nabywców wadą będzie również brak wbudowanego napędu DVD.

Cena poniżej 1900 zł jest uczciwa, zważywszy, że Samsung X420 z procesorem SU4100 jest znacznie żwawszy od każdego netbooka, a dzięki 14-calowemu ekranowi - dużo funkcjonalniejszy od typowego minilaptopa. Notebook ten jest przy tym tylko o połowę cięższy od Asusa Eee PC z ekranem 10" (waży 360 g więcej niż Samsung N510), a długością pracy dorównuje najlepszym na tym polu netbookom.
