Test Asus G51J 3D

Asus G51J 3D to jeden z laptopów z technologią 3D Vision Nvidii, wyposażony w zestaw pozwalający (po założeniu specjalnych okularów) uzyskiwać wrażenie obrazu przestrzennego wyświetlanego na ekranie o odświeżeniu 120 Hz (i niskiej rozdzielczości). Do tego notebook ten dysponuje wydajnym procesorem 4-rdzeniowym Intela i mocniejszą niż układy w laptopach ze średniej półki kartą grafiki GeForce GTX 260M.

Obudowa

Potężna sylwetka, grube plastiki, solidna i ciężka obudowa o majestatycznym wyglądzie - to cechy, które składają się na ogólną wizję, do jakiej przyzwyczaił nas Asus w swoich laptopach z serii Gaming z matrycą 15”. Model G51J 3D pod względem projektu obudowy jest bardzo podobny do starszych, ale znacząco zmieniła się doktryna dotycząca kolorów. Agresywne czerwienie znane z serii G50 zostały zastąpione mocno stonowanymi kolorami granatu i niebieskiego, co moim zdaniem przełożyło się na bardziej profesjonalny wygląd.

Laptop z serii G nie może oczywiście zatracić swoich zewnętrznych atrybutów komputera do gier. I tak oto G51J został wyposażony w zestaw elementów podświetlonych oraz symboli „Republic of Gamers” umieszczonych w strategicznych punktach. Najbardziej jednak przykuły moją uwagę fikuśny gładzik z „różkami” i matowa powierzchnia podkładki pod ręce.

Wykonana z plastiku pokrywa ekranu na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się być stosunkowo sztywna. Podczas podnoszenia i opuszczania klapy odkształcenia są stosunkowo niewielkie. Silniejszy nacisk na zewnętrzną cześć obudowy także nie zakłóca obrazu wyświetlanego na matrycy, ale plastik pomiędzy zawiasami jest bardziej podatny na ugięcia i przy wyjmowaniu laptopa z plecaka odradzałbym silniejszy chwyt w tym miejscu. Będąc przy minusach, muszę też nadmienić, iż większość powierzchni pokrywy jest błyszcząca, a co za tym idzie podatna na wszelkie odciski palców i tym podobne zabrudzenia.

Jak przystało na laptop dla gracza, zewnętrzna część klapy została przyozdobiona efektownymi motywami. Czarno-granatowo-niebieska powierzchnia pośrodku została „rozdarta” przez biały motyw wypełniony maleńkimi kwadracikami. Środek tej kompozycji zajmuje podświetlany emblemat „Republic of Gamers”, nad nim zaś przycupnął szary logotyp Asusa. Całości dopełniają paski modułów podświetlenia (iluminujące białym światłem) umieszczone pionowo po bokach klapy oraz poziomo gdzieś na ¼ wysokości od zawiasów. Przy samych zawiasach obudowę matrycy wykonano ze stylizowanego na skórę delikatniejszego matowego plastiku.

Wewnętrzna strona panelu LCD wygląda skromniej – ot, trochę ozdóbek wokół kamery, ciekawe odboje w kształcie skrzydeł oraz klasyczny metaliczny emblemat Asusa u dołu; na wysokości zawiasów zaś - pasek matowego plastiku.

Zawiasy wyglądają solidnie i, co bardzo cieszy, nie wydają żadnych dźwięków podczas ruchu wyświetlacza. Zastanawiające jest jednak, po co producent wprowadził ograniczenie odchylenia ekranu. Na szczęście nie jest ono zbyt uciążliwe (ekran można odchylić do kąta 150 stopni).

Platforma robocza Asusa G51J spisała się świetnie podczas testów organoleptycznych, wykazując dużą solidność i niemal pełną niewrażliwość na silniejsze naciski. Chwytany w różnych miejscach notebook nie wydał żadnego dźwięku, a od strony spodniej nie był podatny na ugięcia. Nieco słabiej wypadła strona wierzchnia, gdzie pod wpływem nacisku delikatne odkształcenia wystąpiły nad napędem optycznym oraz w okolicach paska szybkiego uruchamiania.

Pulpit został wykonany gustownie i ze smakiem. Szara, nieco gumowata powierzchnia podkładki pod ręce zapewnia wysoki komfort pracy. Umieszczony w jej sercu nieco demoniczny gładzik został dzięki pewnemu obniżeniu świetnie zabezpieczony przed przypadkowymi muśnięciami. Powyżej ulokowano klawiaturę a za nią maskownicę głośników z umieszczoną pośrodku listwą wyposażoną w przyciski (w tym w przycisk zasilania).

Rozmieszczenie portów jest niemal identyczne jak w Asusie M60J. W G51 brakuje jedynie gniazda DisplayPort. Przyszłych użytkowników z pewnością ucieszy mnogość złączy. Recenzowany notebook został wyposażony między innymi w FireWire, eSATA, ExpressCard i trzy gniazda audio. Użytkownikom praworęcznym nie spodoba się natomiast umieszczenie gniazd audio na początku prawej ścianki i dwóch portów USB tuż za nimi.

Osprzęt

Asusa G51J wyposażono w podświetlaną klawiaturę wyspową. Gdyby nie podświetlanie właściwie nie dałoby się jej odróżnić od klawiatur znanych z modeli N61/N71, a dzięki luminescencji przypomina tą zastosowaną w G73JH.  

Płytki klawiszy zostały wykonane z matowego, miłego w dotyku plastiku. Okalająca je nakładka jest już niestety z typowego błyszczącego materiału. Nadanie nakładce zabezpieczającej przed zabrudzeniami błyszczącej powierzchni jest poważnym błędem - zamiast mieć ułatwione zadanie użytkownik będzie musiał siedzieć z ściereczką i poświęcać dodatkowy czas na usuwanie zanieczyszczeń z elementu, który w założeniu miał przed nimi zabezpieczać.

Klawisze cechują się stosunkowo cichym klikiem (z wyjątkiem spacji) i średnim oporem zapewniającym komfort pisania. Niestety, powierzchnia klawiatury jest bardzo podatna na ugięcia. Kolejnymi jej klasycznymi wadami są niezoptymalizowane klawisze bloków numerycznego i kierunkowego, których płytki zostały zwężone, a ich harmonia zaburzona poprzez umieszczenie prawej strzałki w miejscu, gdzie powinien znajdować się klawisz „0”.

Poza wspomnianym wyżej intrygującym wyglądem gładzik cechuje się także świetnymi walorami użytkowymi. Dzięki obniżeniu tabliczki dotykowej w zasadzie nie trzeba się obawiać o przypadkowe muśnięcia, dzięki dobrej czułości praca z tym urządzeniem jest przyjemna, a dzięki niezłej rozdzielczości - dość szybka. Na uznanie zasługuje również funkcja przewijania, zarówno w pionie jak i w poziomie. Firma Synaptics (producent tego przyrządu) po raz kolejny udowadnia swój profesjonalizm w konstruowaniu płytek dotykowych.

W komplecie z laptopem nabywca otrzymuje całkiem wygodny plecak (Targus) oraz świetną mysz optyczną (Razer Abyssus).

Obraz

Matryca 15,6”, jaka znalazła się na wyposażeniu G51J, wygląda standardowo, sądząc po zasadniczych parametrach. Ot, typowy współczesny błyszczący wyświetlacz cechujący się proporcjami 16:9 i typową dla piętnastek rozdzielczością 1366x768. Dogłębniejsze jednak zapoznanie się z parametrami bardzo pozytywnie zaskakuje.  

Jest to jedna z nielicznych w laptopach matryc LCD cechujących się częstotliwością odświeżania sięgającą 120 Hz! Ponadto matryca jest zoptymalizowana do wyświetlania obrazów 3D. Wraz z notebookiem dostajemy dodatkowo podłączane do USB urządzenia w postaci emitera i okularów 3D, które w komplecie z matrycą zapewniają nowy poziom doznań wzrokowych. Niesamowita wręcz głębia obrazu 3D sprawia, że widz czuje się prawie tak, jakby został przeniesiony do oglądanego świata. Technologia jest jeszcze bardzo młoda, ale produkt Asusa pozwala się nią cieszyć już dziś.

Obraz wyświetlany na matrycy G51J cechuje się dość słabymi kątami widzenia. Wyświetlacz cechuje się za to niezłym kontrastem, jasną (acz nie do końca równomiernie rozłożoną) bielą (189,3 do 235,9 cd/m²) i nie najgorszą czernią, która zaledwie w jednym miejscu przekracza 2 cd/m².

Osiągi

Asus G51J to laptop łączący w sobie najnowszy technologicznie procesor (Intel Core i7) i nieco starszą, wykonaną jeszcze w procesie 55 nm, ale wciąż bardzo wydajną kartę grafiki (Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M).

Wykonany w technologii 45 nm czterordzeniowy procesor Core i7-720QM cechuje się bardzo wysoką wydajnością mimo niskiego taktowania podstawowego (1600 MHz). Jako jedna z nowszych konstrukcji Intela jednostka ta została wyposażona w większość najnowszych instrukcji oraz nowinek technicznych. Dla przeciętnego użytkownika najistotniejszą z nich może okazać się funkcja Turbo Boost, dzięki której w razie potrzeby procesor zwiększa taktowanie do 2800 MHz. To, jak i7-720QM wypada na tle innych procesorów, jest w dużej mierze zależne od programu testującego. Przykładowo wedle wskazań 3DMarka06 i7-720QM jest wydajniejszy od Q9000, ale mniej wydajny niż Q9100, a według wskazań 3DMarka Vantage, i7 osiąga ponad trzy razy wyższy wynik niż jeden z wydajniejszych procesorów dwurdzeniowych, i5-520M.  

Karta graficzna GeForce GTX 260M jest ucieleśnieniem maksymy „stara, ale jara”. Ten układ wykonany w procesie technologicznym 55 nm i osadzony na złączu MXM 2.1 dzięki 256-bitowej magistrali i niezłym częstotliwościom taktowania cały czas potrafi sprostać niemal każdej nowej grze. Według testów syntetycznych zaś jest porównywalny z młodszym GF GTS 360M.

Świetnym dopełnieniem mocnej konfiguracji są dwa pojemne i szybkie dyski twarde Seagate Momentus. Dyski te cechuje dość duża powierzchnia magazynowa (320 GB każdy), oraz świetna prędkość obrotowa (7200 obrotów na minutę). Jedynie, czego brakuje do pełni szczęścia, to wsparcia dla technologii RAID.

Wpływ na otoczenie

Hałas

Kulturą pracy nasz tytan wydajności niestety nie grzeszy. Wyposażony w pojedynczy wentylator odpowiedzialny za studzenie zarówno procesora jak i karty grafiki układ chłodzenia zwyczajnie musi być słyszalny i taki właśnie jest. 

34,3 decybela to wartość w zasadzie znośna. Niestety, już kilkuminutowa praca na luzie szybko zwiększa obroty wentylatora a co za tym idzie natężenie hałasu. 

Napęd optyczny jest pod względem głośności urządzeniem przeciętnym. Nie należy do cichych, ale i nie można go zaliczyć do grupy najbardziej hałaśliwych. 

Gorzej rzeczy się mają z układem chłodzenia pracującym pod obciążeniem. Laptop Asusa jest niestety jednym z głośniejszych, jakie ostatnio trafiły na nasze testy. Pracując chwilę w stresie, wentylator emituje hałas na poziomie 47,5 dB, a po dłuższym czasie obciążenia osiąga maksimum obrotów i przekracza 51 dB.

Ciepło

Asus G51J nie zasługuje na miano laptopa w znaczeniu anglojęzycznym. Odpowiedzialny za dwa wydajne podzespoły pojedynczy układ chłodzenia radzi sobie co prawda całkiem nieźle, ale na obudowę przedostaje się mimo to na tyle dużo ciepła, że zwłaszcza z lewej strony laptopa można obserwować odczuwalne dość wysokie temperatury obudowy.  

Najwyższymi odnotowanymi temperaturami wierzchniej strony jednostki zasadniczej były odpowiednio 30°C podczas pracy na Wi-Fi i 34,8°C podczas testów stresujących podzespoły. Trzeba tu też zaznaczyć, że wartości zostały zarejestrowane jedynie z lewej strony obudowy.

Dużo cieplejszą okazała się spodnia część platformy roboczej. W najgorętszych miejscach temperatury sięgnęły 39,7°C bez obciążenia i 51,2°C z obciążeniem. Nie są to jednak temperatury występujące na całym obszarze pomiarowym, a jedynie na niewielkiej przestrzeni. Z tego powodu przy przyjęciu innej metodologii pomiarów (sprowadzającej się np. nie do podawania wyników skrajnych, a uśrednionych czy mediany) wartości podane w tabelce mogłyby okazać się niższe.

Głośniki

Asus G51J 3D został wyposażony w zestaw głośników Altec Lansing, kartę dźwiękową Creative Audigy HD 3D Gaming Audio i system EAX Advanced HD 4.0. Zestaw ten generuje rewelacyjny dźwięk o wysokiej czystości i niezłej głośności. Do pełni zadowolenia zabrakło mi niestety porządnego subwoofera.  

Jak zapewnia producent, system EAX Advanced HD 4.0 ma dostarczać niespotykane dotychczas efekty przestrzenne. I rzeczywiście - jak na laptop wyposażony w niewielkie głośniczki efekty są bardzo dobre.  

Dla prawdziwych melomanów Asus przewidział jednak trzy złącza audio do podłączenia większych i mocniejszych głośników, na których system dźwiękowy będzie mógł rozwinąć skrzydła.

Wydajność akumulatora

Wydajność akumulatora w przypadku notebooka stricte do gier jest kwestią trzeciorzędną i tak właśnie potraktował ją sam Asus, którego produkty są dość powszechnie znane z krótkich przebiegów na jednym ładowaniu.  
 
Przy maksymalnej oszczędności energii pojemność akumulatora (4800 mAh, 53 Wh) wystarczy na blisko półtoragodzinną pracę. Po odłączeniu od gniazdka z Internetu będziemy mogli korzystać przez ponad godzinę. Filmu w całości nie obejrzymy, ale za to nawet na dłuższy odcinek jakiegoś serialu prądu w baterii powinno wystarczyć. Jeśli zaś chodzi o pracę pod obciążeniem, to raczej proponowałbym traktować akumulator jako UPS pozwalający zachować stan gry w przypadku zaniku prądu w sieci, niż jako źródło zasilania umożliwiające większą mobilność.
