Test Acer TravelMate 8572TG

Acer TravelMate 8572TG miał być w zamierzeniu idealnym laptopem dla osób przemieszczających się, które potrzebują sporej wydajności. Jego osiągi muszą być dobre, skoro jest on wyposażony w procesor Core i5-430M oraz kartę grafiki GeForce GT 330M, którą można przełączać na układ zintegrowany celem oszczędzania energii. Ten długo oczekiwany odpowiednik Aspire TimelineX 5820TG z matową matrycą nie otrzymał natomiast wyjścia HDMI.

Obudowa

Obudowa TravelMate jest prawie całkiem czarna i tym samym odpowiednio elegancka jak na laptop użytkowy, przeznaczony dla firm. Srebrne elementy to tylko przyciski i logo. Wyłącznik komputera ma postać suwaka.  

Platforma robocza wykazuje bliską nienagannej sztywność i dużą odporność na nacisk. Słabym punktem okazała się (podobnie jak w wielu innych laptopach) okolica napędu optycznego. Spód laptopa cechuje się należytą wytrzymałością. Znajduje się tam duża pokrywa serwisowa, która umożliwia dostęp do modułu WLAN, dysku twardego i pamięci RAM. Jeśli zajdzie potrzeba rozszerzenia pamięci operacyjnej, z zabiegiem tym poradzi sobie bez trudu nawet laik.

Cienka obudowa ekranu do pewnego stopnia radzi sobie z siłami, które działają na nią, kiedy chwyta się ją za jeden z rogów. Na ekranie nie pojawiały się wówczas zaburzenia obrazu, ale rozlegało się donośne skrzypienie. Dekiel ugina się wyraźnie pod punktowym naciskiem, przy czym na włączonej matrycy pojawiają się zaburzenia obrazu.  

Zawiasy wydają się nieco za małe w stosunku do wielkości ekranu. Stawiają one dość duży opór i podnoszenie pokrywy jedną ręka nie jest możliwe. W zamian za to ekran jest utrzymywany stabilnie w określonej pozycji i chybocze się tylko umiarkowanie przy okazji korekty ustawienia. Brak mechanizmu zatrzaskowego blokującego klapę.  

Wymiary 8572TG są typowe jak na nowoczesny laptop z ekranem 15,6”. Nawet waga 2,45 kg (z akumulatorem) zaczyna być już standardem w tej klasie sprzętu. Według producenta wersja z opcjonalnym akumulatorem 9-komorowym jest podniesiona w górę na wysokość 52,5 mm (bateria ta wystaje od dołu). Po zamontowaniu tegoż akumulatora waga komputera wzrasta do 2,8 kg.
Acer nie omieszkał wyposażyć omawianego modelu w port dokujący. Można do niego podłączyć stację dokującą Acer EasyPort IV, która posiada 4 porty USB 2.0, złącze DVI-D, wyjście VGA, gniazda audio,  RJ45 (Ethernet) i gniazdo zasilania. Wzbogaca więc ona skąpe wyposażenie samego laptopa w cyfrowe wyjście obrazu.

Zewnętrzny monitor bądź rzutnik można bowiem podłączyć do TravelMate 8572TG tylko przez port VGA. W laptopie tym nie znajdziemy HDMI, eSATA, USB 3.0, ExpressCard i FireWire (i.Link).

Rozmieszczenie złączy jest równie niedogodne dla użytkowników korzystających z myszy prawą i lewą ręką. Przednie części ścianek bocznych są bowiem zajęte przez porty, do których podłącza się urządzenia na stałe (LAN, VGA, wszystkie USB).

Osprzęt

W modelu 8572TG zastosowano klawiaturę Acer FineTouch. Matowe, nieco szorstkie klawisze są dość miłe w dotyku. Płytki są zupełne płaskie, a odstępy między nimi – małe. Jeżeli chodzi o charakterystyki mechaniczne klawiszy, można dostrzec dość krótki skok, niewielki opór i dość raptowny stop. Klawisze są niestabilne i chodzą na boki, a odgłosy towarzyszące pisaniu są dość głośne.
 
W środkowej części instrumentu podstawa klawiatury wyraźnie sprężynuje. W okolicy klawiszy JKL słychać nawet od czasu do czasu zgrzyt, kiedy bardziej energicznie wbija się znaki. Z drugiej strony krótki skok, gładka powierzchnia i standardowy układ sprawiają, że pisze się bez wysiłku. Profilowane, wgłębione klawisze i wyraźniejsze wypustki na klawiszach F i J uczyniłyby jednak klawiaturę wygodniejszą. 

Na prawo od głównego bloku znajduje się wydzielony blok numeryczny złożony z czterech kolumn. 

Przyciski szybkiego dostępu służą do kontroli nad modułami łączności (WLAN i Bluetooth) oraz do włączania opcji oszczędzania energii (Acer PowerSmart). Na prawo od nich znajduje się guzik wyzwalający szufladkę napędu optycznego.
Gładzik V7.2 firmy Synaptics obsługuje liczne funkcje multidotkowe. Można korzystać z przewijania w pionie jednym palcem w oznaczonej strefie (opcja aktywna od początku użytkowania) oraz w poziomie (opcja, którą użytkownik musi włączyć samemu). Płytkę dotykową można wyłączyć poprzez kombinację klawiszy Fn+F7.

Przyciski myszy mają krótki skok i reagują tak samo na całej powierzchni.

Obraz

Matryca AU Optronics (AUO41EC) jest matowa, tj. z powłoką antyodbiciową. Nominalna rozdzielczość wyświetlacza o przekątnej 15,6” to 1366x768 pikseli.  

Zastosowana matryca rozczarowuje swoim parametrami. Uśrednione wyniki pomiarów jasności maksymalnej dały niską wartość 158,8 cd/m. Maksymalny odczyt (na poziomie 178.6 cd/m) odnotowano na środku ekranu. Niemniej jednak jasność jest wystarczająca do użytkowania w pomieszczeniach zamkniętych. Ekran jest podświetlony dość równomiernie (81%). Poziom czerni jest dość wysoki (1,12 cd/m). Kontrast z kolei wyraża się niskim stosunkiem 159:1.
W subiektywnym odczuciu chciałoby się widzieć na ekranie głębszą czerń, jaskrawszą biel i bardziej żywe kolory. Przy oglądaniu planszy jednobarwnych nie było widać ciemniejszych miejsc i smug. Wyświetlany tekst był zawsze dobrze czytelny i miał odpowiednią ostrość.

Dzięki matowej powierzchni ekranu korzystanie z laptopa na dworze nie jest większym problemem, przynajmniej w cieniu. Dla równie dobrego efektu przy mocno świecącym słońcu przydałoby się w każdym razie silniejsze podświetlenie panelu LCD.  

Kąty widzenia w płaszczyźnie poziomej są dość szerokie, a te w pionie – tradycyjnie bardziej ograniczone. Co ciekawe, przy patrzeniu na ekran z góry spadek kontrastu i zmiany kolorów następują wyraźnie szybciej niż przy patrzeniu od dołu.

Osiągi

Acer zadysponował do testowanego modelu procesor Core i5-430M z generacji Arrandale. Jest to jednostka dwurdzeniowa, o częstotliwości taktowania 2,26-2,53 GHz. Dzięki technologii Hyper-Threading może przetwarzać współbieżnie cztery wątki.

W TravelMate 8572TG zastosowano hybrydowe rozwiązanie graficzne. Oprócz zintegrowanego z procesorem układu GMA HD laptop ten posiada niezależną kartę graficzną GeForce GT 330M. To rozwiązanie analogiczne do tego znanego z laptopów Aspire TimelineX (które jednak otrzymywały kartę grafiki ATI). GMA HD można przeznaczać do obsługi mniej wymagających zadań (w tym akceleracji wideo HD), a kartę Nvidii rezerwować do grafiki 3D. O korzyściach płynących z przełączania grafiki dowie się Czytelnik w części recenzji dotyczącej wytrzymałości akumulatora.

Testy wydajnościowe przeprowadzono przy aktywnym układzie GeForce GT 330M. Wyposażony w 4 GB RAM DDR3 komputer działał pod kontrolą 64-bitowej wersji systemu Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium.

Jako pamięć masowa służy w omawianym laptopie dysk twardy Western Digital o pojemności 500 GB i prędkości 5400 obr/min (WDC WD5000BEVT-22A0R). Testy przeprowadzone z użyciem HD Tune nie wykazały odchyleń od normy.

W tę grę można grać tylko na niskich ustawieniach. W rozdzielczości 800x600 i na niskich detalach uzyskano średnio 79 kl/s. Na średnich ustawieniach (1024x768, medium, 2xAF) TravelMate 8572TG zaliczył 27,8 kl/s i rozgrywka nie była już w pełni płynna.

Wpływ na otoczenie

Hałas

W sytuacji małego obciążenia TravelMate 8572G jest przyjemnie cichy. Natężenie hałasu wynosi zwykle  32,7 dB i z rzadka tylko wzrasta do 37,2 dB.

Testowany model był dużo głośniejszy, kiedy jego podzespoły poddawano obciążeniu. Już po kilku minutach testu z włączoną kartą Nvidii natężenie hałasu osiągnęło maksymalny poziom 41,7 dB, który utrzymywał się stale. Szum jest wtedy donośny, ale łatwo się go znosi, gdyż jego tonacja jest niska i ma on charakter ciągły.

Generalnie z zachowania wentylatora można być zadowolonym.

Napęd optyczny działa dość cicho i nie narzuca się użytkownikowi podczas odtwarzania płyty DVD.

Ciepło

W sytuacji nikłego obciążenia (korzystanie z internetu i aplikacji biurowych) nie odnotowano alarmujących temperatur. Wręcz przeciwnie – laptop Acera był cały czas przyjemnie chłodny. 

Inaczej wyglądało to w teście obciążeniowym, który jednak wyciskał wszystko z karty graficznej i procesora, a trwał kilka godzin. Tego rodzaju stres będzie jednak raczej rzadkością w praktyce, a w normalnym trybie użytkowania temperatury będą nieco niższe. Choć wentylator chodził dość ostro, na wierzchu platformy roboczej temperatura doszła do 42,6°C w najcieplejszym miejscu (w prawej części klawiatury). Płytka dotykowa wydawała się ewidentnie ciepła. Spód laptopa zrobił się wówczas wręcz gorący – skrajne wartości sięgały prawie 50°C. Użytkowanie laptopa trzymanego na kolanach odbywa się bez utrudnień w razie braku obciążenia, ale już podczas gry w wymagające względem sprzętu tytuły nie jest przyjemne. 

Temperatury podzespołów rosną podczas testu obciążeniowego intensywnie i to w krótkim czasie. Po kilku godzinach poddawania stresowi karta grafiki osiągnęła maksymalnie temperaturę 92°C, a procesor - 94°C. Na diagramie aplikacji TMonitor widoczne były regularne, krótkie spadki częstotliwości taktowania CPU, ale do obniżenia wydajności wskutek throttlingu jako takiego nie dochodziło.

Wydajność akumulatora

TravelMate 8572TG stara się samodzielnie ograniczyć zużycie energii w trybie zasilania z akumulatora. Niezależnie od wybranego uprzednio planu zasilania komputer bez wiedzy użytkownika uaktywnia funkcje oszczędzania energii. Ogranicza jasność obrazu, podejmuje próbę zmiany układu graficznego na zintegrowany i zapala kontrolkę PowerSmart. Dążenie urządzenia do działania na przekór wybranym przez użytkownika ustawieniom było bardzo irytujące podczas testów sprawdzających wydajność baterii. Z drugiej strony jednak początkujący użytkownik nie musi się dzięki temu troszczyć o optymalne ustawienia zarządzania energią, gdyż po przełączeniu na zasilanie akumulatorowe system usiłuje oszczędzać energię na własną rękę.

Notebook Acera nie polega na technologii Nvidia Optimus – przełączanie układów graficznych zachodzi poprzez zmianę profili zasilania lub użytkownik dokonuje go ręcznie. Mankamentem tego rozwiązania jest konieczność zamknięcia prawie wszystkich aplikacji przed zmianą karty (inaczej niż w przypadku Optimusa). Poza tym podczas przełączania ekran na krótko robi się czarny.

Testy przeprowadzono przy wyłączonej funkcji PowerSmart (jej włączenie powodowało zmianę narzuconych ustawień, przy których mierzony jest czas pracy). Aktywna karta grafiki była wybierana ręcznie. Przytoczone niżej przebiegi uzyskano przy udziale znajdującego się w zestawie akumulatora 6-komorowego o pojemności 66 Wh.

Tylko test obciążeniowy (symulowany narzędziem BatteryEater Classic Test) przeprowadzono przy włączonej karcie GT 330M. Komputer wyłączył się po 98 minutach.

Maksymalny czas pracy (uzyskany w teście czytelnika programu Battery Eater) wyniósł 5,5 h. Korzystanie z internetu bezprzewodowego (WiFi) było możliwe przez prawie cztery godziny (ustawiona zadowalająca jasność, wybrany profil oszczędny). Test odtwarzania filmu z DVD dał wynik przekraczający nieco trzy godziny (przy ustawionym zrównoważonym planie zasilania i maksymalnej jasności obrazu).  

Jeżeli nie są to zadowalające przebiegi, można dokupić pojemniejszy akumulator 90 Wh. Sprawi on, że laptop będzie działał o około 1/3 dłużej na jednym ładowaniu.

TravelMate 8572TG jest stworzony na potrzeby profesjonalistów udających się w podróże służbowe, którym od czasu do czasu potrzebna jest większa wydajność karty grafiki. Wraz z zasilaczem i akumulatorem laptop ten waży około 3 kg – to górny limit dla urządzenia, które chciałoby się często zabierać ze sobą. Jego zaletą jest dość duża i matowa matryca. Wadą tej ostatniej jest dość niska jasność obrazu.

Wyposażenie 8572TG w złącza jest ubogie. Szczególnie dotkliwy jest brak wyjścia HDMI. Stacja dokująca z portem DVI-D to marne pocieszenie – trzeba ją dokupić i swoje waży.
